ive got a b5 s4 running on 20's but the 225/30/20 tyres are stretched on the rims . i want to change two at a time cos they are nearly £300 each . can i put 225/30/20 on the front and 245/30/20 on the rear or will this mess the 4x4 up. i.e blow my diffs? any help on the matter will be gratefull.

Gander,

I would not recommend putting different sized tires front to rear. This will mess up the quattro system over time, may not happen right away, but you will develop problems. As for biggest size, the factory outer diameter of the stock S4 tires ranged from 24.9" to 25". The 225/30/20 tires I saw are all @25.5". Now 1/2 inch might not sound like much, but you most likely will run into clearance issues, especailly if the car is lowered (which I'm assuming it will be/is already and as you're already running the 225/20s right now, I'm assuming it's a tight fit). And as for 245/30/20s, these are even worse at 25.8"s... for sure clearance issues.

As a side note, my uncle and I run a B5 race car, with the full RS 4 wide body conversion and run 275/35/18s all round. I am "upgrading" to 285/30/18s (bigger, yet cheaper) and yet still retain the stock outer diameter size of 25" or less.
