Donīt know if was already posted here but here it goes anyway. German magazine Auto motor und sport tested these three and once again it seems that the RS6 didnīt convice the jornalists. The M5 was the winner of this this test followed by the Alpina. Itīs really strange howīs the RS6 was third. General opinion was that the RS6 wasnīt that sporty, and the confort was much worst compared to the M5. They rated M5 first on driving pleasure too.

I've seen the test. It is very clear that the RS6 wins looking at technical point only - another tecnhical knock out! :addict:
However it is more expensive to buy and own (but who cares?).

From German AMS Aug. 7 2002.

Audi RS6 / BMW M5 / Alpina B10 V8S

0-80 km/h 3.6 / 3.7
0-100 km/h 4.9 / 5.2 / 5.4
0-140 km/h 8.9 / 8.8
0-160km/h 11.2 / 11.2 / 11.8
0-180km/h 14.9 / 14.1
0-200 km/h 18.9 / 17.1 / 19.5
0-250 km/h not tested
0-1000m 24.2 / 23.8 / 24.6

There's also another test which goes through all the technical details, safety, comfort etc. etc. with a max of 500 points.

RS6: 406 points (max 500)
M5: 403 points
B10: 398 points

Then another 150 points which covers emissions, price, warranty etc.

Total:
RS6: 486 points (max 650)
M5: 500 points
B10: 498 points

The RS6 loses 12 points to the B10 and 8 points to the M5 just in terms of price and 9 points to both in 3 yrs. servicecost which I guess is free for BMW.

Purely looking just at the statistics and figures it seems that the RS6 is better if money is not an issue.
If there is a possibility to feel the difference between 3 points...?
As usual it's a matter of taste, personal feelings and emotions.

They are both very good cars, but I have a feeling it's a lot easier to ALWAYS kick butt with an automatic and quattro.

The RS6 would also be a lot easier and cheaper to make go faster with a chip.

But the automatic-geared RS6 is faster than the M5 on the Nurburgring...8.25 vs. 8.28 mins. That says a lot!

How can the M5 be almost two seconds faster to reach 200Kph with less 50Hp. Thatīs something that I really canīt explain. I know the RS6 has quatro system and itīs heavier, but this doesnīt explain it all. Maybe thses cars have very few kilometers and with time will perform better, or this specific car wasnīt making 450Hp.

Anyway, from what the press has been saying, the RS6 seems much faster, and this is due to turbo power kick. I drove the M5 and felt the power coming very early but in a very "smooth" way. Really prefer the slight turbo lag and than BANG.

there is NO turbo lag with an rs6 *g*. perhaps you refer to the rs4?

as mentioned before... if you test a turboengine at high temperatures you dont have the full power.

edit:
to be more specific the turbos start at around 1900rpm as the 4.2l engine itself is very strong you really dont feel the start of the turbos. if you keep the car in s-modus then it besides the start it allways stays over 2000rpm ....

It is interesting that the BMW 'catches' up with the Audi at higher speeds.. I wonder why this is?.. Maybe the turbo is working at full capacity and cannot force any more air into the engine.. maybe the pipe work needs to be made bigger (or ,of course, the boost pressure needs to go up).

The quattro is certainly an issue.. it does weigh a lot.. but I think that the advantages of having it vastly outweight the reasons for not having it.

Maybe the next generation RS6 will be made from Aluminium??
