For what it is, that's a great price. My guess is it will be even cheaper here in the US. I say "base" price of $99-103K USD.

that is an amazing price! that would put it at under 100K in the USA. fully loaded then, it might be less than 115K.

i would educate a guess of 96K base. 5K for the B&O sound system (smaller car than A8 and so smaller system). 10K for ceramic brakes. 4K for nav and LED headlights and we're there....... the rest is a couple of hundred bucks.

though it seems as though AOA would have to fight to get many options standardized for the admit price, i.e. magnetic ride, etc....

I'd say even less for the B&O. The German price is @$1.5K...so should be close here as well.:0:

I would guess that Porsche is the target:

R8 4.2 ......... 911 Carrera 4S - $88,400.00 US

R8 4.2 Spyder .. 911 Carrera 4S Cab - $98,600.00 US

R8 V10 ......... 911 Turbo - $122,900.00 US

Lighter R8 (rumor) - 911 GT3 - $106,000.00 US

Road & Crap guesses that the R8 Spyder will be around $100,000,
which is about equal to what a new 911 Carrera 4S Cab goes for.

Porsche sells the Carreras, Carrera S's, etc. before selling the Turbo.
So, one could surmise that Audi well follow that introduction path as well.

The performance figures quoted for both the R8 4.2 is a close match for
the 911 Carrera 4S: 100 km/h in 4.6.

Porsche claims 179 mph top speed.
Audi claims mid 186 top speed.

I suspect that a V10 model will surface 2 years from now as a MY 09.
By that time the Gallardo should be 550 HP enabling the R8 V10 to be
500-510 HP range.

Now if Audi can be convinced in creating a Bi-Turbo V10 R8 :vhmmm: .

Well, just like with women, good looks goes a long way does it not? Despite my critique of some issues with the R8, it so happens that I have spent a lot of time on the German configurator.

Consider this: I configured my "existence level minimum budget version" of the R8 at eur 123.630: 1) R-tronic, 2) Feinnappa leather (not full leather), 3) metallic colour, 4) heated seat, 5) lumbar support (not fully electronically adjustable), 6) aluminium pedals, 7) parking system, 8) cruise control, 9) light pack, 10) magnetic ride, 11) motor cover in carbon sigma, and 12) 19" wheels.

Adding the additional/alternative elements to end up with "the premium way it should be level" of the R8 - i.e. carbon blade, sat nav, fully eletronic seats, bang & olufsen, alcantara interior roof, cd changer, and full Feinnappa leather with piping would take the price up to eur 134.940.

Where is any info on this rumor of a lighter R8? I have yet to see or here anything other than this.

Where is any info on this rumor of a lighter R8? I have yet to see or here anything other than this.

At first I thought I read it in CAR magazine, then I remembered it was the
Autoweek website.

AutoWeek | Published 09/27/06, 4:35 pm et

Titled: Look out Porsche And Ferrari and Lamborghini too, while we’re at it.

Second paragraph, last sentence

"Based loosely on the Lamborghini Gallardo, the aluminum two-seater will initially be powered by the same 4.2-liter, 420-hp V8 used in the RS4. That engine should be good enough for a 4.6-second 0-to-60-mph time, and a top speed of 190 mph. Word is that in about two years’ time the S8’s 5.2-liter 480-hp V10 will be available. Beyond that, Audi is studying the possibility of doing a lightweight version as well."

We can only hope this is true
