I think you just need the cable. Although if the new owner ever wants to trade-in his cable for an upgrade (they do give you some trade-in value) then he might be out of luck.

all the new owner would needs is the cable, software can simply be downloaded from their website. I got mine the same way and the previous owner also sent me along with the cable the original Invoice which can be very useful if still under warranty or if the cable fails in time, i do benefit of the software upgrades, as for trade-in never thought ofso don't know if it works or not...

I have the cable, which is now useless to me.
If anyone has interest to buy it, pm me. I''ll have to check which version it is, but I purchased it new from Ross-Tech for my '03 RS6, probably about 7 years ago. I used it through early October this year, when I bowed out of the car.
