Some peeps on another forum refuse to believe that even in S mode, the exhaust valves stay closed in the first 3 gears between 1000 and 3700 rpm. Where can I get official info to shut them up?????
Thanks.

Exhaust Flap Control
After the Sport mode is activated, unlike in normal
operation, the exhaust flaps in the rear silencer are
opened when the engine is idling. This emphasizes the
sporty sound of the RS4 engine.
After engine speed is increased, however, the exhaust
flaps are closed again. This ensures that the vehicle
meets the statutory noise emission limits.
Reopening of the exhaust flaps while driving is speed
and load dependent, and is regulated on the basis of a
characteristic map.
Thank you to Mori for the following info:
Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 5,000k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th
Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open at idling 760rpm
exhaust flaps shut from 1,000k rpm until 3,700k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Thank you.
Slightly off topic...but what effect does drving in Sport mode have on your fuel consumption?
I have noticed very little diff if any. Also, by disconnecting the valves completely, does this have any effect on mpg?
Cheers

Some people reported that the consumption actually improved with the valves disconnected.
Cheers M3_dude. This is what i expected...free-er flowing exhaust usually aid fuel consumption a tad.
Hmmm..might have to look into this.
