    The Future

    Hey everyone!

I was just at our local dealer looking at the new RS4...I gotta tell ya I am tempted to trade in my RS6...just so I can shift again Anyway I guess I am looking for some input...wait for the next gen RS6? or grab a new RS4? I have read what others have posted here on the next gen RS6...is it reallly gonna be a V10 twin turbo with a gearbox? Or is this just speculation? Does anyone think it will be here inside of 24 months? And finally will it be North of $125,000? Thanks in advance for your input!

    Re: The Future

As you say, talk of the new RS6 and its specifications is all speculation at this point. No doubt some who post here will claim to have all the inside information, though...

The new RS4 and the RS6 are very different cars, so you have to decide what is best for you! The RS4 is very fast, no doubt will handle better, but will need to be worked harder and won't be as relaxing to drive every day. Conversely, IMHO thanks to the turbos the RS6 is defined by its torque - effortless, stress-free progress in all situations and from all rpm, with more roominess and arguably more stealth than the RS4, but less enjoyable when you want to drive past 8 or 9/10ths.

It depends on when the RS6 will be out. If next year, stick with what you've got until you sample the RS6, if it's a couple of years away, go for the RS4. It's the match for the current RS6 in normal driving eg. it's in-gear time are very close, but outright performance is much better. It's ride quality is light years better and you have a manual gearbox. Yes it's smaller inside, but unless you are carrying adults in the back all of the time, no worries. I doubt anyone on this site who have sampled both cars will put the current RS6 close to the RS4.

But remember Audi are on a roll at the minute, RS4 best in class, the new TT already beating it's rivals, I doubt the next RS6 will be anything short of amazing, I don't envy your decision.

    Ditto that.

Leadfoots advice is pretty good as well. As for me... ALL THE WAY.

Hey guys thanks for the input! I went out for a drive last night (took some back roads to play racquetball) and really the RS6 is such a blast to drive...I think I am gonna wait for the new one. I have 27,000 miles and a year left on the warranty. Hopefully the next gen RS6 will be here soon!

    Fitz,

Did you have a drive in the RS4 yet. I was just interested in someone else's opinion on which was best, the RS4 or the RS6. I agree with your decision to stay with the RS6 until the new one comes along, I only hope you wait isn't too long.

The only problem with buying cars is, as soon as you have took delivery, there is something new out be it from another company that bigger and better, technology is moving on so fast.

If the next RS6 isn't out until late 2008, this might be around the same time as the RS5 give or take 6 months. Now if you didn't need four door and all that extra space, that would be a tricky decision to make. Pound for pound I bet it will hit just as hard as the RS6, but handle even better.
