Was this the Challenge race at Infineon this past week? If so, the owner is still in an induced coma, and the driver/instructer was out several hours after being in intensive care.

Ahh man... what can you say?

Was the owner or the instructor driving? Wow, that is messed up. It just shows that even in a "safe" environment, this kind of terrible stuff can happen.

    Hope both will be ok.

The instructor wrecked it. I heard various versions of what really happened at Infineon earlier today.

Not to change the subject, but tell us about the wrecked RS6. Where was it? What color? I hope it wasn't my old one (1:1500 odds +/- for everybody here that's sold one)

Infineon crash and RS6 crash both very sad. Especially sorry to hear about the serious injuries.

One question. How is it that the driver's airbag in the RS6 did not inflate in that kind of accident? Pretty severe impact, so you'd think it would have inflated, assuming someone was driving at the time and didn't leave a passenger unattended to roll down into the tree at evidently a high speed. Strange.

    Where was this?

Appears to be a side impact so the front airbag wouldn't inflate.

I'm assuming the sensors detected no frontal collision and only ignited the airbags to the affected area.

Either way, that's sad to see but who cares about the car. Just say a prayer for the guys in the car.

As DaveyKid says, the bag detected no frontal impact, therefore did not deploy. Only airbags that will actually make a difference in a collision will deploy for safety.

Man, that is such a huge impact on the passenger side, it is no wonder the passenger (owner) is in a coma. Terrible. Makes you think twice about having the "instructors" drive your car. I'm wondering if he was just very unfimiliar with the car, or if the Beast had some kinda mechanical failure? A crash of that magnitude really doesn't make sense on an instruction lap(?).

I sure hope the owner recovers. Otherwise, you'll be hearing from one seriously grieving widow. My prayers to the family.

    TO BE CLEAR

    Ben,

I/we do not know the story behind this car(RS6). The insturctor/student car conversation was from this last weekend @ Infineon during the Ferrari CS event. Not the pics of the RS6 here as again we do not know the story.

really sucks to see this, hope everyone is fine or atleast recovering fast.

54m: as far as i know there were only 8081 RS6 built as well as those 999 RS6 plus. I guess there are probably 7000 non-plus still alive...
