    Beware 15 mpg

This car uses a scary amount of petrol! I'm only averaging 15 miles per gallon and I've been driving very conservatively as I'm running in the engine. About town it seems to be between 6-10 mpg  and 20 if I'm lucky once I'm on open roads. I was hoping I'd be able to keep this car for a long time but this is crazy!

What car, the S4 or RS4? The 4.2 V8 is a damn thirsty thing.

According to the Audi UK site the RS4 gets on average the same miles per gallon as the S4. If what you are getting is real world I may reconsider my order. I do about 30,000 miles per year.

It should use a bit less once the motor is broken-in. But hey, you bought a performance car, what did you expect?

New engines do tend to use more fuel until they free up a little, but those figures are pretty poor. You do realise it has more than first and second gear right ? haha

For comparison what were you getting in your b6s4?

I do mostly town driving in my b6s4 and get 20 litres per 100km (11-12 mpg in old money)...I was hoping that the rs4 was close but it appears not to be the case.

IMO 15 l / 100km is pretty normal for such a monster V8. And 11.5 l of open roads is even pretty good!

Mmmm seems abit low.. I would have expected about 18mpg+ you should really run it on 98RON fuel and nothing else.... I would recommend Shell Optimax, this will also improve fuel mpg figure.

Ive got a long wait for my RS4 to arrive but people are right... when you want sports car performace the mpg figure wont be high.

I would have expected the same thing.

Not sure why some here assume that Hi Po car=poor fule economy.

Even my will get 20-23mpg on long freeway trips. Now city, that's different. The RS 6 gets terrible fuel econmy around town (12-14mpg). But overall, it should get a combined figure of at least 17-18mpg. Maybe after break in?

What you expected from that kind of car, even official Audi info saying 20 - 22 l/100 km in urban (city) conditions.

Well, that's why I was saying the city cycle sucks for Audis. But... his freeway mileage should be better.

Ben, if you'd drive the beast like a real man do you'd be lucky to get 11 mpg (or 22 l/100 km)

I average (long term) about 16 l/100 km (or about 14 mpg) combined cycle. Autobahn/longer trips is a different story - as Nordo mentined way back, on a good day the tank is good for about 50 minute drive ....

and RS4 will not be too much different

Haha, kinda hard to do in PC So Cal! Remember, long highway drives, I get good mileage, I didn't say anything about my backroad fuel economy.

Yeah that is kinda low I think maybe it will get better after a little more mileage, but not much so dont get your hopes up.

In my RS6 I get 14 when driven in the city stop and go, even LOWER that that when driven hard on certain days.

Highway I avg. about 20-22 when driven normal speeds, 17-18 when driven aggresively.

On a side note my Porsche GT2 on cruise set @75mph I get 23.9mpg. NOW that is a economy sports car ehh.

Bottom line is drive it like you stole it, its the only way you are gonna TRULY enjoy the car and what it was designed for.
You want good constant low consumption get a Prius, but lets not get me started on that issue.
