Now imagine what it must feel like to strap on a pair of skis and START at the top. No cable for them, they are the crazy ones.

The MB would have 4-matic no? just like this A6 has quattro...
I'd like to see an E430 4-matic give it a try with those tires...

4 Matic uses a Haldex diff. So its mostly RWD 80% of the time. Its not a pure AWD system, like Quattro or Subaru.

with those spiked tires and enough power any of the awd cars could do that. The fact that the MB is 80% RWD 'most of the time' is meaning less since the system will transfer power to the non-slipping wheels.

I'm not so sure. Why would they (other manufactures) think the commercial was a fake and why would Audi feel it had to "prove" it could really do that if "any" AWD vehicle could climb that ski jump?

I doubt it very much. See link in my first post in this thread.

This is not a sophisticated drive train issue, its all TRACTION.....Spiked Tires being driven by enough power.

The sophisticated all wheel drive can quickly shift power to the wheels with grip and change it side to side front to back quickly in turns and in varying road conditions.

In this situation, the road conditions are uniform, it's a straight run, and as long as the car has enough power vs weight and all four wheels are being turned any car could make that climb.

Simply because the other guys' all wheel drives have more of a rear wheel (MB) or front wheel (Subaru) bias does not mean that they could not do this trick.

With the studded tires shown, I doubt there is very much slipage to require a sophisticated drive train to millisecond by millisecond vary power to each wheel.

    Just my 2 cents

    Mike

I'd like to see an STi or EVO with those tires try it, I'd bet they too could do it.
