996 Turbo - Tip or man

Anyone who has driven both the Tiptronic and the manual version of a Porsche 996 Turbo?

I'm speculating in buying one, both as an investment and as pure pleasure
..and at first I thought manual was the only option, but since I've never driven
one with a Tiptronic I'm starting to wonder if manual really is the right/only option.

    Enyone that has driven both??
Is it just me getting old??

    Par,

Manual is the way to go, it's a sports car (well, supercar actually!) and it just wont cut the butter having a Mercedes sourced clush box underneath the paintwork.

I haven't driven neither the Tip. or the Man. 996 Turbo, so I couldn't give first hand experience with either, although, I have experienced the Mercedes Benz Tiptronic gearbox and it wasn't anywhere near the involvement produced by a Manual box.

Go hassle your nearest Porsche dealer, I'm sure they're obliged to book you in for a test drive.

P.S I don't believe the 996T has any value as an investment.

Porsche made tens of thousands of 996 Turbos - there are much better cars to pick as an investment.

    Used

    Maybe I wasn't clear enough..
I'm definitely not planing on buying a brand new Porsche.
I was talking about a used car, either here in Sweden, or import from Germany.

A new car would definitely not be anything near a good investment,
but to import the right car from Germany for the right price could be..
..at least if you count "pure pleasure" as par of the investment..

I'd rather lose money this way then on boring papers like shares and funds..

Otherwise you are both right...I think..
Since my S4 has a manual stick it would be really wacko to get a 996 Turbo with Tiptronic.
Anyway...I plan to have one with Tip tested before I buy anything..

There is another car for sale here in Sweden that also has caught my attention.
A white 996 GT3RS with 2000 km on the odometer.
The price is >€ 20.000 below the price of a new car.
I guess Taxi would have been cheaper for those 2000 km..don't you think..

    Manual or Tip? :cool2:

Tip on a Porsche is the first step of becoming a homosexual.

    I understand...

Ok...I am starting to get the whole picture now..
There are many people here with an extremely good sense of humour..
..but no one who has driven both the Tiptronic and the manual version of a Porsche 996 Turbo..

    Of course I want a GT3RS with a Tip...
That would be like putting the engine from my lawn mower in a F1-car..

McBurn, this car is for sale, a 2002.

    http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread....hlight=techart

It can be sold without the tuning, Öhlins etc. according to what you like. I think it has about 25000 km on the odo. The interior is one of a kind with full leather and carbon fibre.

    And...it's a manual

    Black!

Absolutely awesome car...and I've never seen enything like the interior..

Just one problem..beside from the fact that I don't know the price..the color.. I hate black!!
The colors I had in mind was more something like Sealgrey, Silvermetalic, Indischrot or maybe if I dare Speedyellow..
Black is a color I would never choose. It's always dirty and it makes the beautiful shape of the 996 vanish..disappear..
Look at the front of a Speedyellow 996 Turbo, with its huge black air-intake in the front...if you get that in your rear mirror you know that you will be eaten alive if you don't move your ass quick.. On the same car in black the intakes just disappear..

Where in sweden is the car located?

    Two

Here are two cars that has caught my attention.

    Sealgrey:
    http://www.bytbil.com/carinfo.cgi?id...746370955&no=1

    Silver:
    http://www.bytbil.com/carinfo.cgi?id...746526855&no=2

But as you see the problem is that both have Tip..

A Carrera C4 would be nice, but I think it's to weak for me since I drive 344 hp S4
as my everyday car, a car with very similar performance compared to the C4.. :cool2:

    Hi !

go for manual, with the tiptronic you will loose too much of the potential of this fantastic car.

Mercedes a really great with an auto gearbox but not a porsche it's day/night. In a Turbo you have a lot of power it can help if you take the tiptronic sys but you will loose too much of power and sensation...

That's my point of view, if you want an automatic car take an AMG a CLK 55 for instance you can find one (not the actual) for a good price and it's a fantastic car in all points...

    bye

Yeah, some have said "It's not a Porsche if it doesn't have 3 pedals."

    Cool Thought

All I read here is thoughts...
I've allready told you that I share your opinion that I think a 996 Turbo should have a manual stick.

    The question:
"Anyone who has driven both the Tiptronic and the manual version of a Porsche 996 Turbo?"

I'm starting to think I'll have to get that experience myself..

Making a decision based on someone else's experience wouldn't be the right thing to do anyway. Everyone is different, and only you can see how you like it.
