Question Anyone on the board own a C5 S6 Avant 6spd?

If you do, I'd like to ask you a few questions. I'm in the midst of possibly aquiring one to add to the fleet...

Thx both. PM sent. What is a reasonable price for one of these with a 6spd swap, KWV3, Magnaflow exhaust, & RNS Nav?

I thought you tore it apart to merge things for an RS6 Avant Clone.

Well, I solidified a deal today on a Silver '03 S6 Avant. It will be a great winter beater and allow me to sell off the second RS. It does need a tranny.... lol I would consider combining the two to create my own RS6 Avant like a couple of other members have, but I will be able to import an OEM spec 2002 Avant in a few months, so will wait.

Got the car home this past weekend. Sorting out a couple of odds and sods. It needs all 4 upper control arms. Just so happens I have a spare set here which was a win. Could use new brakes in a few months - will change next summer.

Had the S6 17x8 six spoke riims on it with Hakka's. Not a fan of the style, so swapped out for a set of 5 spoke blades that have Pilot Alpins on them. Picked the set up locally here for $200.00! Hell it costs $120+ just to mount and balance these days in my neck of he woods, so I reallly lucked out. They were super dirty with brake dust and had that yellow hue to them in a number of areas. A couple of hours of elbow grease and they cleaned up really nice. In 2-3 weeks a new repro set of center caps will arrive and that's done.

Was missing the cargo cover in the back, but had the privacy screen. Located a cover locally for $50 so another win. Had the all weather mats so that was good. A near new battery. Starts and purrs nicely. Decent sound which is different than the RS which has turbo's in the exhaust stream.

Car remains undriveable still. I bought it under the pretense the tranny was shot, but after digging through things, I think the tranny is fine and the F125 neutral safety switch has failed. Car goes in to reverse fine and there is no slipage whatsoever. Also can move forward in 'limp' mode which is triggered when the RPM climbs up past 1500'ish and it drops in to high gear with the multitronic PRNDS lighting up solid on the dash. I'm optimistic it's just the switch. Fingers crossed.

Had a buddy ask about whether or not I would gut my one RS here and create an RS6 Avant clone like a few people on this board and others have done. Let him know that I don't need to do all the work as I can simply import one in a few months.... In the mean time, I'm hoping to get the tranny matters sorted out in the next month so that I can use it over the winter.

It's no where near new, but it was cheap - and I mean cheap!!

It could just be the TCU. Check under the carpet to make sure nothing is getting wet or has been wet. I have a spare F125 switch if you need one for just the shipping costs. I probably have a TCU somewhere too.

That was on the list to check. Are the RS and the S the same TCU? I could pull the TCU from one of thte RS cars here and try a different one if they are the same.

I tried swapping in the TCU from the one RS here to see if that would provide any alternate results. Well it did.... Not entirely compatible. Model numbers are different (S6 is 4B0 927 156 EQ while the RS6 is 4B0 9277 156 FL), so I thought what the heck lets see what it does. RS TCU in the S threw lit the ABS and a flashing Brake light both.

Car reversed fine, went in to neutral perfect, and then went it a high gear drive. The first run it didn't even rev to 2500 before clunking in to high. Just stright in to high gear. The second start it wasn't as friendly. Swapped the TCU back over and voila back to a 2K or so rev prior to clunking in to high gear which then permited you to limp around.

I was saying to a fellow member that my frustration with trying to diagnose this at this point in time is that I can't hook up VAG COM. I had my car broken in to outside the front of my house a few weeks ago and I thought all that went missing was an old radar detector, decent leatherman, and a couple of other small items after the culpret shatter the latch on my locked glovebox, but after scouring everywhere for a couple of house looking for my Hex USB, I have come to realize I left the cable in the glove compartment box so that I wouldn't "misplace it" inside the house which I have done on occasion over the years.....

Without being able to VAG scan things I can't ascertain if it's throwing the implausible gear code or what so admittedly grasping at straws at this specific point in time. Going to need to order a replacement cable in order to convincingly know what I'm up against.

I sent you a text. I found my old RS6 VagCom cable. Not sure if it will work for you, but it's yours if you want it...

I also had an F125 switch code prior to swapping in a used switch from SteveKen. That fixed the one code, but the problem persists. I doubt it's the TCU, and believe it's either low fluid; clogged filter; broken pick-up tube, or just plain old broken internals.... Before I yank the tranny, I'm going to drop the pan and perform a filter/fluid swap and ensure it's full of fluid. I see a wet rear seal so it's plausible it's low on fluid. Should it be obvious there is more to it than that, an overhaul will be in order I guess. lol
