the old one came out easily? Or was a joint broken? It sounds like the new one is the wrong one....too long?

The old one didn't come out easily but it was very worn, they look exactly identical side by side.

I recall having to do some strange geometry on that side, but I don't recall the details of where I had to put the transmission side to make it fit...plus a little turn of the wheel/upright/knuckle. It may be worth popping the upper ball joints loose.
