Top up rear output shaft oil.

While loosening the screw to top up the rear output oil, there was a amount of oil coming out, around 200-400ml.
How is that possible, cant be overfilled is it?
Car was level on a ramp.

I think there's a good thread on this over at rs246, front page. Is this rear output shaft coming out of trans?

That's the center differential. Are you saying you know it was filled properly on level ground as the fill plug is also on the side so the car should be level side to side as well as front to rear. Also, if the fluid is hot it does expand a little but you are saying around 1/4 to 1/3 liter, that is more than heat expansion.

It is almost impossible to overfill it by that much unless they did it on the floor tipped to the side. If the seal between the trans and center diff is leaking transfluid can get into the diff.

Took the words out of my mouth. And if that was the case shouldn't be difficult to see ATF oil blended in (depending on the oil). I use Amsoil ATF which is bright red and also a very distinct smell.
