Mech Regarding 01E 6-speed MT conversion

Hey guys, I'm thinking of replacing my AT. I got two RS4 gearboxes available, but which one should I get?
I suppose I should get the 4.2 one, but there's also a 2.7 one available. Your thoughts about this?

Also, I remember someone here had conversion kits for the BCY engine, so the transmission can be fitted. I'm interested in one of these kits, who was it that had these kits?

One more thing; Will it, or will it not be possible to still use the F1 pads after the swap?

    Kind Regards,

    Primo.

Either gearbox should work if your talking about the B5 RS4 but if your looking for something with a little better top end the Diesel 01E gearbox would be the best. I think it is from the 2.5 TDI.

+1 for the TDI trans, you can get them through Advanced Automotion. That's what I'm doing here in the next couple of weeks, I'm actually just gathering all of the parts for the swap. But if you already have a couple of good gearboxes, they should work.

The adapter kits are from Steve Kendrish (SteveKen) on this forum, but I believe he may be running low on kits..

Read through Steve's swap thread for lots of great information on which parts you'll need and what the swap entails.

Manual tranny requires one hand on the shifter... Your steering wheel paddles become useless without the 5Tip.
    '02 S6 Avant Silver - Pokey | Carbon Black/Ebony RS6 w/ stuff - darn quick | '03 Daytona Grey/Ebony RS6 w/ more stuff - quicker yet | '91 NSX CDN issue with 6spd & BBSC - quicker yet and then some | '87 Buick GNX OEM clone w/ lots of stuff - quickest hands down

Thanks for your replies - I haven't bought any transmissions yet, but good to know that I got more options!

I'll send SteveKen a pm now quick.

I recently discovered a 2.5 TDI tranny for sale. it's from a '99 A6 2.5 TDI. Will it fit? (With the SteveKen kit, ofcourse..)

If its a 01E DQT (it should be) - it will fit.
    I'm running one of those.

    Look here for the code:

Thanks man, I'll have a look! SteveKen mentioned something about front diff ratio that has to be 4.111 to 1. Do you know if this is a match?

    For DQT it is.
Also for the following 01E codes: FZW, FTU, FDP, EDU, FRQ, FZV, DSY, EEY, DGV, FRN, FTF, FTT, FPP, FYT, GBC, FTK, EHW, FTS, HCN. So basically any 01E with listed code should work. Although I found this list in the interwebz, so you better double-check (ETKA or ELSA for example) on the code you find.

However, for the DQT I'm 100% sure it'll work.
    Good luck!
