Thumbs down Who knows a lot about RS6 transmissions?

Mine's starting to slip. I don't understand why since I've avoided drag racing and have been particular about not having the car shift hard into second.

The dealer tells me it's a $8700 part and $12,150 after the install. Uh, what?!

So I'm looking for an alternative. Does anyone rebuild these? Can they be improved?

    Hoping for help. Thanks!
If you never exceed the limits, how do you know where they are?

Welcome to the world of the RS6...where the transmission doesn't necessarily need a good reason to sh*t the bed...for that kind of money..or less, 517 Transmission in New Jersey can rebuild it so it will likely last forever in your unmodded car. If you have the facilities and the skills, you can have it out in half a day. That will save you a ton of labor. OR, just do as most here have done..reach out to "Tozo" here on the forum...he's half again closer to you than 517...and very reasonable and fast...

Yep, replacement for mine was 13k when the dealer did it. Also, with the core it dropped $1500.00

$3-5k for trans and TC, ~$3k for labor and miscellaneous, find a good mechanic.

Are you tuned? How many miles? What's the last 5 of your vin? All these play into it...

Not tuned. Barely over 100,000mi. 05041. Why do these all play into it?

Adding a tune which puts in ~125 more torque than stock will eat a trans.

100k, I'd be expecting it.......but maybe not if your vin was ~05500 or higher, seems an upgrade was made in the factory, lots of reading here. http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/89...ilation/page25

$1k to ship your car to TozoM8 in Chicago, each way I suppose.

Good point, 905084 has a great shop and rates, unless he's messing around with airplanes....

Mike, why don't you bring it up after the snowstorm, we can pull some codes, drop the pan and take a look? Fluid and filter for cheap and then you will have better idea before spending a chunk of change.
