What, if anything from a 2002 A4 3.0 avant donor will work on the 6MT swap for our cars?
I am guessing, at a minimum, the front axles and possibly the drive shaft are incompatible....
thanks,
Matt

I'm pretty sure that the transmission istelf isn't compatible since it's not an O1E.

Pretty sure the 02 to 03 B6 3.0 were 01e based on what I could find.
the change to 02x came after 03.
It appears the mounts and shift linkage changed, not sure if that means incompatibility with the C5 chassis?
Oh well, had a cheap donor readily available. C5 donors are unbelievably difficult to find in central NY!

Yeah, others might pipe in but I believe that only the C5 platform will "work".
Scotty at Advanced Automotive in TX can get a majority of the necessary parts and some internal upgrades (O1E 1-2 shift).

I think a B7 RS4 transmission will bolt up... might need some custom axles though.

If you gave up on using that 3.0 car for any parts, I would be interested in the tranny. Message me the info on the car if you're passing on it, if you wouldn't mind.
It's gone.

The 3.0V6 A4 is a 01E but I'm pretty sure it has a 4.375 R&P which would require a change that would be expensive (purchase and install) unless it was dirt cheap. Also, 5th & 6th gears are a touch shorter than the 01E from a S4tt or A6tt.

I would utilize a set-up like this and swap out the rear differential to match. The shorter gearing would improve the acceleration over teh 4:11 set-up and unless you are able to stretch your legs at 170mph all the time, wouldn't worry about having a smaller top speed limit. From a gas guzzling perspective, you can assume next to no difference as you would be coasting in a taller gear with barely noticeable RPM difference.
I haven't done my research on the new RS5 & RS7's, but I hesitate to guess that the reason they are posting such impressive 0-60 and 0-100 times is due to shorter gearing in the differentials. They have three more gears in the latest tranny too which when coupled with a shorter gear will accelerate like drag cars do, but still give you cruising speeds and gas economy.

Your best bet would be to hunt for the 01E with the correct 1st gear you are wanting. Replacing first gear is very expensive (in comparison to gears 3 thru 6) as it is cut onto the input shaft. Same for 2nd gear, so you are stuck with whatever 2nd gear is paired with the 1st gear.
