Out with the TIP and in with the 01E

If you recall I did a lot to my Audi during the winter of 2011-12. From maintenance to several mods. One of which included a modified torque convertor. It worked great, only all the shit behind it really didn't care for it. Towards the end of last summer the trans began slipping during the 1-2 upshift. So instead of rebuilding the TIP trans and hoping for the best, I decided to install a 01E 6 speed out of a TDI.
Below are several photos of the bits and pieces waiting for the swap.

That 01E looks like you can eat off it. Did Scotty rebuild it? Cant wait to hear how the project goes. Lets have some good timeline photos like you did last time, Kev. TIA.

Is it me or is that shift trim piece from a pre-facelift C5? i.e., wont fit RS.

Also, what are you doing about the coolant line holes on the trans? you plugging them up or? Any issues with plugging and the internal fluid pump?

It's been rebuilt and tested. Trim? Minor details to get sorted out later. I think I can fab the manual boot into what I have now. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

If you're speaking of the trans oil lines that flow through the radiator, then yes, I intend to seal off the fittings on the radiator and delete the lines. Not sure of the internal fluid pump you speak of.

agree. you should be able to fit shift boot in TIP surround trim. SteveKen did it somehow...

That TDI 01E should be cooler line holes on it. Maybe scotty rebuilt normal A6/S4 01E with TDI gearing? not sure what you have by looking at it. Also, the TDI original trans are supposed to have a twist flexing input shaft to absorb torque better.

maybe I need to send you more close ups of the trans so you can help me get down to the nuts and bolts about it

Thats what I've heard/read ("julex" on QW). Ask Scotty, I'm sure he will know something about it.

Hey Kevin, will you have to get it tuned by AMD when everything is put together? or are there other options. What made you go with south bend over fx400 CM?

very nice project, this is what a lot of us dream about. Looking forward to more pics and progress.

I asked Jerry at EuroCharged to work on a modified tune. If, he can't come up with a solution then I'll have to give AMD a call. Hopefully Jerry can make his tune work.

Clutch choice was based on a lot of forum reading/user reviews, Scotty endorsement and finally, cost.
