Just pulled the TCU out... How to tell if upgraded or flashed?

I just pulled the TCU out with the intent to see if has been upgraded. To my surprise, there are tabs holding the clamshell shroud together. I've seen on the forum where others have ordered the MTM chip/prom and installed themselves. I was hoping to open the unit and inspect to determine if OEM or MTM or?

    1) Is it ok to bend the tabs and open?

    2) Is that how Hoppen does it?

    3) Any need to open?

    4) Are there a drivability metrics (shift point etc?)

Background: Drove 7 RS6"s before deciding on this one. This one shifts the best. Prior owner DID have a new TC installed under CPO---so likely not an ACE.
    Thanks!

Also your shift points would be higher than 6 stock RS6 that you drove.
