    Sport quattro car coming to production someday ...

    TRhe question is does anybody know if this concepot will ever make it to production ? is deicison made to stop or to contiue or is it still in question mark ?

    Afaik the required pre productions numbers were met so its now up to audi!

    So far i know there is no decision made, only rumours.
    And some of the rumours are that it could end up on a TT RS floorplan for production, it can end up being in big lines the next TT, it can end up in big line as the next Gen A5.

    In various interviews after the Quattro Concept was shown, Audi management said that a decision would be taken in Setptember. It is now December and we've heard nothing. My belief is that the concept as proposed is now dead.

    I read the the cost of re-engineering the A5 chassis and putting a new body on it was going to be between €400 million and €500 million. To break even, Audi would need to sell 10,000 units at €50,000. To make a reasonable profit, the price would need to be nearer €75,000 or even as high as €100,000. When you start charging this amount, the sales numbers that are achievable drops off rapidly. This price point would have also put the QC in direct competition with Audi's R8. if Audi were to charge €60,000, this price would put it in direct competition with the TT-RS. When Audi looked at engineering costs, sales volumes, maximum selling price potential, and possible risks, the business case didn't stack up.

    What we may get instead is a TT-RS Plus with less weight, more power and better handling as an interim model, then later we should get a new TT based on the Quattro Concept's styling. In both cases, I doubt whether we will get a longitudinally mounted 5-cylinder engine, which is a petty.

    We also have the junior R8 in the pipeline which should also have similar styling and a transverse mid-mounted engine: the R4. It isn't clear where this will sit relative to the TT.

    All these new models should offer varying degrees of power and performance to suit both wallet and driving style. We just won't get a car that is a true spiritual successor to the original Quattrob

    The next TT will get a more retro style, it will look like the TT Mk2 with some TT Mk1 cues, it also will grow a little but weigh less. (Audi Ultra technology)
    Like the Mk2 TT the Mk3 will again get a specialised alloy/steel body with a lot of CFRP, and will keep the transverse engine layout but with a new 5th generation Haldex. (XWD is Haldex 4+)
    A longitudinal 5 cylinder like in the quattro Concept will not do wel in a Euro-NCAP test, the bonnet is much to close to the engine, it was stuck in there for historic reasons, the inline 5 is a transverse engine.
    The transverse top engine will be the inline five 2.5TFSI en the smaller longitudinal top engine will be a all new 3.0 V6 TFSI with single or bi-turbo.
    Personaly i think the quattro Concept was not retro enough, but the design could well be the next Gen A5.

    TT Mk3 to get Haldex 5, I thought we were only up to Haldex 4, does this mean the Haldex 5 will get some form of Torque Vectoring diff?

    Also gaining lots of CFRP will surely push the price up considerably will it not?

    Fifth generation - due 2012

    On 16 April 2009 Haldex announced a deal worth SEK4.5B (approx US$530M) to provide Volkswagen with a new AWD system for the company's new modular platform due in 2012.

    I don't know what it will be, but the question will be: will the new gearbox for the MQB floor-plan have a centre diff or not.
    Only with a centre diff it would be possible to get more then 50% of the power to the rear axle.

    The front fender of the RS3 are already CFRP.
