Poll: Rate the cars you have owned over the past few years and how the RS6 stacks up

This is a fun poll so we don't have to get into the issue of comparing apples and oranges so here's my list:

    2003 RS6 - 9.5
    2001 996tt - 10
    2002 C4S - 9
    2002 Boxster S - 7
    1999 996 C2 - 6.5
    2001 330xi - 5
    2000 328i - 6
    1999 Z3 2.8 - 4
    2004 A4 3.0 - 6

Personally, I am surprised how much enjoyment the largest and heaviest car I have ever owned is providing me. RS6 is really remarkable.

    Giving my cars marks for how I felt about them when I still owned them, as judging them all by my standards today wouldn't be fair;

    2003 RS 6: 9.5/10
    2002 S8: 9/10
    2000 A6 2.7T Avant: 8/10
    1998 A4 2.8QM: 9/10
    1997 Vauxhall Vectra 2.5 V6 SRi: 6/10
    1994 Vauxhall Cavalier LS 1.7TD: 7/10

Before that I had (as company cars!)

    1990 Rover 214i 16v 6/10
1987 Ford Escort 1.4 L with a Weber twin carb on it. Went like the clappers for a 1.4, but burnt as much oil as it did petrol! 4/10

    Alan

Agree with TheBrit, rating them now versus when I had them as new, pretty tough. Anyhow,

    RS6 9.5
00 Vette 9.5/10 (most fun you can have with your clothes on!)
    98 S500 9.0 Very squishy comfortable and a great
    cross country machine
94 S500 8.5 Couldn't ever get the front end aligned
    91 S500 8.5 Pretty Solid
89 S500 8.5 Not quite as good as the 86
86 S500 9.0 First one and it was heavan. Chicago
to Carbondale (360 miles) 4 hours flat. What a
ball. Drove the hel. out of it and it just kept runnin.
84 98 Olds 7.0, nice car overall, great opera pillar lights
    That's far enough!!!

    RS6 - 9.0
2004 A8L - 8.5 (had a short time but this car is SWEET!)
2001 BMW X5 4.4 - 7.0 (damn this SUV drove and handled like a car)
    2000 A6 4.2 - 4.5 (worst car I've owned)
    2000 Acura TL - 5.0 (FWD, what was I thinking...lasted less than 1 year)
1998 540i - 8.5 (IMO world's greatest sedan before the super sedans came out)
1998 Nissan Maxima SE - 6.0 (first car bought on my own)
1995 Acura Legend - 7.0 (hand me down but nice car for its time)

    Uh, here's my lineage

Present--RS 6, sublime, I don't have to pedal and I still own (repo man has not caught up with me yet)! Survey says, 9.5
'88-92'--Assenmacher road bike, cro-moly baby, and I still own. Survey says, 8
'92-'96--Moots Mountaineer, my lead sled, and I still own. Survey says, 6
'96-'00--Ventana El Chiquillo, damn Al frames are stiff, and I still own. Survey says, 9
'00-'03--One-Off Titanium, Ti work of art, and I still own. Survey says, 10.

Although it may be hard, try not to be too jealous of my stable.

(As you can see, my prior modes or transportation were...errr... more modest)

03 Avus Silver Audi RS6 - 9.5 (turbo lag robs it of a perfect 10)

01 Mahogany BMW X5 3.0 - 7.0 (the I6 engine too weak for the weight, but it handles remarkable well for a boat)

99 Titantium Silver BMW 540/6sp manual - 8.5 (my intro to German cars and how sweet it was, drop in the M5's 5.0L V8 and it would have been a 9.0, add AWD and it would have been damn near perfect)

98 Black Nissan Maxima - 5.0 (nice engine, but FWD, torque steer, so close to being a good sport sedan but missed on all marks)

98 White Mitsubishi Montero - 4.0 (squeaked like hell over bumps, worst purchasing decision I have ever made, these things won the Paris-to-Dakar Rally??? well, it WAS a tank in the bad weather)

96 Red Nissan Pathfinder/5sp manual - 7.0 (loved it at the time, but inability of Nissan to remedy an resonant exhaust "rattle" that occured between the shift between 1st and 2nd gears led me to dump it)

93 Black Plymouth Laser/5sp manual - 4.5 (have almost no memories of this car, except being happy that I traded it for the Pathfinder, frighteningly bad in the rain and in the snow, a change of tires did not solve the problem)

88 Gray Pontiac Grand Am - 6.5 (giving it props since this thing started in some sub-zero temps in the Berkshires when my buddies' Saabs and Volvos failed them)
    '01.5 Stg3 S4 (Dahlback Racing software)
    '01 X5 3.0
    '04 Mini Cooper

'03 RS 6 (Avus/Silver/NAV/Rear Side Airbags) --gone but not forgotten

    I guess it's my turn

    2003 RS6: 10
    2001 CLK 430 Convertible: 10
    2001 Piaggio Vespa: 10
    2000 S4: 10
    1997 540i: 10
    1997 Acura 2.2CL: 10
    1990 535i: 10

I know you're all thinking that 'how can he possibly give all them cars a 10?' I really like all of them, for different reasons actually. I have such a hard time getting rid of them.

As an example, the 1997 Acura 202CL was a 3-year lease. But I babied that car. I used it to get to my part time job while in college. The job itself did not pay enough to cover car payment and insurance, which became a bad biz decision, but I never got rid of it. When it came time to bring her back, she had about 6K miles less then what my lease would have allowed, and in perfect condition. I'm sad to admit, but a couple of tears raced down my cheeks, and I felt chest tightness when I handed the dealership the keys.

The 1997 540i is my dogs favorite Winter car. The 2001 CLK 430 Convertible is my dog's favorite Summer car. And I like both cars alot. I'm now thinking that I should dump the CLK 430 Convertible (only 7K miles on it), and get another convertible. Thinking of the Aston Martin or maybe the new BMW 6 if it ever comes out topless. But then again, I've been thinking of doing so for a year, and still haven't pulled the trigger. That's how much I like them all.

They're all so much fun, even the Vespa that only does 35MPH downhill!!!

Can I play, too, even though I don't have an RS 6? I have driven one, though, so I at least have a frame of reference for the question...

    '03 RS 6 - 9.4 (somebody else's :-( )
(room left for a less nose-heavy feeling and 500+BHP)
    '00 A6 2.7T - 8.8
    (reliability could be better)
    '94 Acura Legend L sedan - 7.7
(nice car, dead reliable, too much engine noise on hwy.)
    '90 Acura Legend Coupe LS - 8.5
(really sweet, especially for its time)
    '90 Acura Ingtegra GS sedan (5sp!) - 7.1
    (fun to drive, too noisy)
    '80-something Dodge Lancer ES turbo (5sp!) 6.0
(I know, I know, but it was pretty quick with the turbo motor, and I saw 124 mph on the digital speedo once - fast for a K car!)
    '73 Olds Cutlass - 6.0
("Rocket" 350 V-8 wasn't really, but the car was nice-looking. Had the swivelling captain's chairs buckets)
    '76 Plymouth Volare Wagon - 4.0
(318 V-8 made it faster than you'd think, assuming it didn't die right off the line, which it did often - never fixed)

Yikes! Not exactly a hall of fame, but I'm movin' up in the world!

ZCD, my list isn't exactly going to be a hall of fame either... but it has been moving up as well..

'03 RS6 - 9.0 Great machine, definitely 'super-fast' but most likely exit at end of lease... not very 'tossable'
'03 W8 Wagon - 8.0 Wife's car, great for hauling the kids, and enuff oomph to get around slowpokes in the fast lane who don't like to move.
'01 S4 - 8.0/9.0 (Stock vs Chipped) Very 'tossable' and refined at same time.
'01 Passat - 7.0 Like the look and the feel but the 1.8T just didn't have the juice I was use to.... was my attempt to get the performance of my previous cars with the ability to double as a family car... (actually that was the S4, this was just an attempt to lay off the power... missed it way to much, lasted only 6 months)
'84 928 - 9.0 5 speed was awesome, very good power/weight ratio and very, very tossable... and so under-appreciated as a Porsche could pick up for a steal
'83 928 - 9.5, Slightly higher as this was my gift to myself for graduating college. Had always wanted a Porsche, 'accept no substitute' The first 150+ mph production car sold in the states... (1 year prior to 84 Corvette) OF course I didn't get mine till '94
'80 Scirocco - 4.0 Good times/bad times college beater car.... more maintenance put in than price paid... always a good sign
'90 Geo Storm GSi 6.0 Hey I was young and poor... My 'sports' car I could afford. Actually I liked the look, and with 130 hp under the hood, I was movin!
''87 Renault Alliance GTA - 4.5 My first new car, 18 and out of the house. Was great the first 6 months, and then reliablility became a serious issue....
'74 Datsun B210 - 10.0 Why??? because this was my first car, and therefore represented my freeedom. No it wasn't fast, no it wasn't pretty (Bumblebee yellow), but I did all the maintenance on it myself (which no way I could do now... fuel system to transmission) And boy did it have a thumpin stereo (is 85, there were lowered mini-trucks a plenty where I lived, and 'thump' was all that mattered, cause none of us could afford speed)

Wow, nice walk down memory lane... It's not so bad getting older!
New RS6. Holy Crap is this thing fast!

We don't have much public transport in South Africa and other than VAT (Sales Tax) extremely low taxes on cars, so one has to get by

BTW reason why I never had a Porsche Turbo is that the current 996 (a car I would really love to have) costs $ 250.000/Eu 208.000 and a Ferrari 360M $ 430.000/Eu 361.000
In relation to the RS6 price in SA $ 107.000/Eu 94500, Porsche and Ferrari (to a greater extent) are milking the cow and being totally abusive with their pricing.

    Umm, okay my list:

    2003 RS6 Avant 9.5 - It's close to perfect for my needs
    2000 A6 2.7T Avant Tip. 9.0 - A good car. Wouldn't have got rid of it if the RS6 hadn't been available.
    1996 A4 2.6SE Avant 7.5 - Auto (non Tip), and FWD
1994 Rover 420GSi Tourer 6.0 - Expected it to be better than the 216, but was disappointed
1990 Rover 216GSi 6.5 - Started off as a company car, but I bought it when the company folded
1988 Ford Sierra 2.0 Ghia 0.5 - A temporary company car whilst awaiting the Rover. It was awful!
1974 Reliant Scimitar GTE 8.0 - bought when 6 years old, and kept for 10 years
1969 Ford Cortina 1600 GT 6.0 - bought when 6 years old, kept for 5 years (my first car)

I still use the log book to record every drop of fuel which has ever gone into each of these cars! The Rover 216 was the first car I had from new. All subsequent cars have been bought new.
    03 RS6 Avant - Daytona Grey, Silver Leather/Alcantara :)
