Exhaust Manifold Porn, since were all getting into Porn lately.

Attachment 11621Attachment 11620Attachment 11619Some pics of my exhaust manifolds that I recently had ceramic coated. Attachment 11618 They are fairly high res so you should be able to get a close up. Even then they don't show how well they actually look.

Interior and exterior. They media blasted them inside and out then coated them. Seems to have the ceramic coating throughout the entire length of the inside of the exhaust manifold pipes.

Have you considered doing the intake "Y" pipe?

Looks great Mark. I am jealous. I am firm believer in ceramic coatings. This will probably lower underhood temps quite a bit too.

As far as the ypipe, I really don't see an advantage in that. There isn't enough heat there to warrant it IMO

You would think that you would want the Y pipe to dissipate heat as much as possible rather than retain it?

Ya exactly, It might be advantageous to put reflective material on the outside of the pipe toward the engine. Might reflect a little heat away from it.

    wow....

Is this the super duper extreme 2000+ degree stuff? I have done several turbo kits over the years and found only the HD super duper HPC coatings will stand up to a fine tuned high egt turbo setup. I have had good luck with exhaust manifolds, turbine housings and downpipes in the stuff. Still looks new to this day.

This is their top temp 2000' + coating that I have used before on a 944T track car and it is still holding up great. The car is apart because I broke a $6 downpipe stud (was pulling the downpipes to gut the cats) that needed the engine/tranny pulled to repair. So I decided while it was out to have the tranny & T.C. rebuilt, Turbo's rebuilt, new hoses, gaskets & seals on the back of the motor. Then pulled the Exhaust manifolts to have them coated while everything was out. I have had a lot of other things keeping me busy lately but I did bolt the exhaust manifolds on last night after a little bit of port matching. Tonight or tomorrow I'm going to bolt the Turbos on. I probably won't get the engine back in the car until the end of the month. I've already around $8K on the project but I'm still considering new downpipes rather than just gutting the stock ones.... But I'm a little tapped out now to other car expenses (buying new wheels for my 911) and family issues to pay for.

a big project for sure. was the trans the big expense? I did miltek downpipes. IMHO -worth the $. But I did not have a lot of other expenses at the same time. It adds up fast. What did you have done to the tranny? Are you getting a higher stall TQCnVtr?

Yea, trans was the biggest expense and just rebuild and modified valve body and plates and such, I would stick to the stock stall speed on our car due to the TCU & ECU controlling. I want to get it back in the car but I also want the Milltek's or Labree pipes as well and I want to bolt the downpipes on before I raise the engine/tranny to make it easier as that is what got me into trouble in the first place so we'll see. I'm also doing the timing belt water pump from the group purchase (Thanks again Pat), though I did purchase the stronger Gates Racing belt (suppose to be 6x stronger). Not that I'm lengthening any change intervals but just for a piece of mind. I haven't heard of any belts failing on the RS6 just some rollers (not a lot of RS6's for great statistics) but I have heard of some on the regular 4.2 40V engines which use the same belt as we do. BTW, anybody want to buy a OEM new timing belt for cheap?

Those look really nice Mark. Once again, just give me a buzz when you get some time to work on it. I would love to help out and see how these things go together.

Interesting to hear about coating the inside of the headers. Talking with my mech today about next months project, and we are planning on coating the downpipes and headers. I think after reading this I'll talk to Performance about the inside too. I was going to closely inspect the inside of the headers after seeing what happened to Max's, loosing a chunk and toasting a turbo, which I now have rebuilt Any more input would be great. Cost?
