DIY fix for navigation button not working (droopy button syndrome)

For those that use the stock nav, and have noticed that it is really hard to push the nav and info buttons, I have discovered the problem. And this is mainly for bobski, as I haven't really seen anybody else really voicing their concern on this problem. It was kinda bugging me, and I was(and may still) going to use that location to custom mount the escort 9500ci control buttons. So in taking the nav control module out, I figured out why it wasn't working. I fixed it here at work, but am unable to load pics right now. So, when I get home I will add to this post with pics and instructions. And no, it does not require taking apart the center console.

Ok, so the module is not hard to remove. The cable that is attached is short hohever, so you will want to unplug it. In order to remove the switches, first remove the rotary wheel. After that, remove the two blank pieces, one below the nav and info push buttons. two small flat head screwdrivers on either side with gentle pressure does the trick. Next, you can either use your finger in a hook motion, or use a hook shaped implement. You want to hook up underneath the module where you just removed the blank next to the nav and info push buttons. It is held in place with a couple of little plastic tabs on the upper half of the module. You just pull it up with gentle pressure till it stops, which is where the tabs get caught on the center console. Just grab both sides and pull up. You will only have about 6 inches of leeway with the cable, so dont yank too hard ;-). Now, unplug the module. If you are having this problem, you will notice that the lower half separates from the upper half toward the back half of the module. Easy fix! Separate the two halves slightly, and put some superglue in the crack there. Both sides should get the treatment. I went ahead and did it all the way around. Also, i prefer the control gel superglue. But to each his own. Now, sqeeze the two halves back together and let dry for a few minutes, making sure to wipe any excess off around the edges. Also, try not to get any in the guides on the side, they look kinda like dovetail joints. Once dry, plug the module back in. Should work great now. If not, at least now the old one is out and you can install a new one with ease. But if it did work, slide it back in till it clicks and is flush. Replace the two blank pieces, and then the rotary knob. Tada! Hope this helped somebody. On a related note, i thought it was really weird that my nav still works after I GUTTED the sharkfin antenna, which involved clippng all the wires to the antenna components and tucking them back in the roof hole, to install the GPS antenna for the Escort 9500ci. Randomly pushed the nav button this morning before fixing it, and it showed my location...But hey, it still works, and is just as accurate. Other than for my control module for the escort system, no. But i was also thinking of mounting that next to the stop button for the seat memory. Still undecided...
