James stopped by this morning on one of his brief moments of being back in town, and we installed a set of LED tail lamps and removed the amber side markers from his headlamps. Thank goodness for AC in the garage, it's 95 degrees out there today!

Nice work! Since my lights are out, I may consider this MOD. How difficult is it? Heat gun? Any negative results, like fogging up?

Pretty simple, I did mine over the winter, and no fogging problems at all. Yep, just heat the seam with a heat gun (I actually used a blow dryer to minimize the chance of overheating the plastic) and separate the lens from the bucket. Then the amber reflector just un-clips from the lens. When you press them back together, reheat the seam to redistribute the sealant. They're sealed with Butyl, which will reflow to fill the seams. If you feel you need more sealant, you can buy Butyl from any auto parts store. It will be called strip caulk, or ribbon sealer, and is made by 3M. Just don't try to use any type of silicone sealant, unless you get all of the old butyl out of the seams, (impossible) it won't bond properly.

Sounds easy enough, I'll do it! Funny thing is, if I'm detailing the Beast, hood up, facing West in the PM the SUN actually soften the Butyl considerably - like a heat gun! Oh, did I mention the sun is really intense this time of year?
