And your post was intended to provoke such a response, so congrats. If you're seriously stupid enough to still believe that the GTR time was faked then I'll happily be dismissed from the forum, as I don't like talking to idiots. I find talking to idiots is NOT appropriate and I've reported your post as idiotic.

    Z07,

I enjoy your posts, but not the name calling. We ALL know RXBG has a BIG thing for the GT-R (and yes, it gets old), but it is a thing he has for the GT-R, not you personally.

Please do not make it personal by using name calling. If you want to trash his R8, then fine, but not him personally. This is not what this board is about.

    oh no you didn't zed.

listen zed. since you must ask, i'd be happy to tell you what i think of GTR fanboys (though my post about the ring time was pragmatically honest and will ALWAYS remain thus). i think GTR fanboys are underachieving gimps with inferiority complexes that lead them to want to exhaust f*ck GTRs because GTRs are representations of themselves- overweight, slobby, awkward-looking, odd, and goofy. and i have no problem with that zed, i mean, the human libido requires that kind of displacement, i'd be miserable having to be one of those guys so i don't blame them for trying to constantly intoxicate themselves with performance numbers. they compensate with justifications about cost overcoming ugliness and dream about quarter mile times so that they don't dwell on the insignificance of their peckers and the unattractive girls they attract. after a while, though, they become really overbearing, obnoxious, and irritating (like the guy at the local meet who cluster fvcked his GTR's wheels by curbing them after i challenged him to come after me around a nice long curve while actually turning his TC off so he could see how sh*tty the GTR actually does handle when you actually have to drive it.) know what? that guy is no longer very irritating. i call him the "R8 killer" since that was the first thing he called his car after meeting me and before he knew i had an R8. i call the curb "GTR killer" now and everyone laughs.

so zed. learn from R8 killer. think about what you say and who you say it to. and learn to only write things on the internet that you would actually say to people to their faces. it's called having class. kind of like having an R8 zed. having an R8 is class. having a GTR is not having enough money to get an R8.

the GTR is a myth. fanboys swear about the tranny being solid, warranties being left intact, runflat tires being durable, and their cars never overheating. yet GTRs are lousy on the track. at Sebring they overheat regularly, tires chunk, brakes overheat and rotors get warped. and all this on stock GTRs. oil sensors need to be constantly monitored and cars pitted when they get too hot. and when they do a mandatory service visit is required by the book. you think i don't know what i am talking about? i know GTR owners zed. i know Chin personally zed (and his own personal opinion about the GTR). even nissan executives can't help themselves any longer at the stupidity of those poor cars' buyers who Cobb them and lobb them and they are posting this on public forums. i mean how sad IS that zed? why is it that the only GTR owners i've met who are likeable fellows and who openly admit the defects and limitations of this vehicle are people that own a car other than a GTR?

the GTR is old news. became old news even before the R8 V10 came out. it is overmechanized. artificial. a pig with lipstick. lots of lipstick. take the lipstick off and it is still a pig. only frogs like piggies.

now go have a cookie and a glass of milk.

    Ben
I have no wish to trash the R8, regardless of its owner, as it's a perfectly decent car. It's just a shame that people still choose to question a 'ring performance level that the GTR has lived up to in about 5 dozen tests on other smoother, wider tracks that should benefit its competitors more.

Everyone realises by now that the GTR has reliability issues over its gearbox but it's still a great performer and looking at it pragmatically the total number of gearbox failures is less than half the number of GT3s that get stacked into a barrier at the 'ring every year. Some would argue that that's driver error, but it's at least 50% design error too IMHO and vastly more expensive.

It's also disgraceful that a person so biased and foolish in their views is acting as a moderator. This moderator also forgets that I drive an earlier model GTR that has no TC and it handles very nicely without it. In fact I'd love to see someone in a stock 1989 year 911 Turbo, or even pre-993 turbo attempt to catch me. They'd be named 'Walter Roll' afterwards.

This post is also stupid. At least you're consistent. If you had clever spells, it might give people a fright. Now have a Solero and shut-up.

And feel free to post video evidence of any 911 'ring time.

getting back on topic.... the GT2 RS (and the 997.2 GT3's of the world in general) has definitely put porsche back on the supercar map. (and again i am not a porsche fan), but i love this car. by the time people start comparing its inadequacies vs contemporary cars it'll be 2030 and someone- maybe a 2030 GTR driver will say that a 20 year old car's driver would have to be "Walter ROHL" to catch him. however much sense that makes. that is how ahead of its time this vehicle, at least in the eyes of "pragmatism" as they say.

cheers porsche fans. now someone test this beast!

Andy- problem with modded cars is how well done they are. i remember seeing stage 3+ B5 S4's with significant differences in 1/4 times and such- just based on the quality of the build and how well the cars were running on a particular day. i think that this is why modifying cars is addictive, fun, and time consuming... but can also be a pain in the butt. inconsistent performance at times can also be misleading. and the level of tuning between completely different cars can make it hard to compare who is racing. the P800 is a monster of a car- a monster build also. it might be interesting to see one vs a well tuned 997.2 TT PDK.

for example RS tuning is the best turbo engine tuner for porsche.depends how much thick is your skin and how much you appreciate the engineering

if you want a 4.3lt Mezger high compression VTG Secan(very expensive) intercooled 800ps engine with 950nm @3000rpm there is no alternative..the problem is it will cost somewhere north of 100k euro...they charge the mega money for the special crankshafts they have made, specially prepared heads etc...the real technical feat of these engines is that they produce power at 1 bar boost only with all the advantages which that brings. The latest 997tt alzen based racer was the test bed for a lot of these advancements

dont see the point why comparing a 800 hp engine to a 620 hp engine,
either take it stock vers stock, (gt2 miles a head 0-300kmh in 33 secs, gtr 0-300kmh in 52 secs)
or take the gt2 9ff 800 hp 0-300kmh in low 20 secs with will place him again a head of the 800 hp gtr

as long as a gt2 has the same hp than a gtr, gt2 will win in acceleration 0-300kmh
GT2 is really fast and will still will be realy fast even in stocks.
wonder if the r8 gt will make the 0-300 in 300 seks as the stock gt2 does..
