Nice installation. Is there an iPod/iPhone adaptor? Does this head unit require other changes to work in the rs6 (Speakers, Amps, etc?)

What is the button above your radio between the ESP and hazard buttons? It appears to have a green light???

Yes it has one SD slot, but I don't know if it is exclusively for upgrading the Garmin Nav or if it is dual purposed.

Yes the Unit has an Ipod/ Iphone cable that runs from behind the unit into the glove box. I did not have to buy any other adaptors to make it work with the factory speakers. The Parrot Bluetooth is simple just pair the phone to the unit and it downloads your contact info and you are done. I am awarding you the chicken dinner for your attention to detail for noticing the toggle that is used to activate the K-40 integrated radar detector. I bought the car with it. It has saved me from many tickets, it even saved me from having my radar confiscated here in VA where radars are banned.

    Sribe,
I am prepared to counter your $800 offer with an $1800 offer for just the Head Unit. Now if you want the Install kit, Ipod connector and the wiring harness, which I think you will need then add $300 more. Even when I sell the car this unit comes separate, as I have the OE Symphony unit I can install.

Nice install Gen Xer. For the past 2 weeks being trying to decide which head unit I want to install. I have narrowed it down to 3 units, Your unit(Kenwood DNX9960), Alpine INA-W900 and the Pioneer Avic-Z120BT. Its a tough decision, but I am leaning toward the Kenwood. I would like to use the on board GPS antenna. But I believe the antenna cable terminates in the trunk were the factory navigation unit would be located. How was yours connected? Did you use the antenna that came with the unit or somehow connect it to the factory GPS antenna? I had the DNX8120 in my 2.7T and the antenna was placed under the dash directly above the instrument cluster. This setup performed very well. But I would still prefer to use the factor antenna if possible. Any way good luck with the unit.....

    Elevens,
I am currently in the process of installing my Escort 9500ci radar-laser system. It came with a GPS pod as well, because it is location aware of traffic camera lights, etc...pretty nice feature. Anyway, i mounted the pod INSIDE the stock antenna fin. Pretty easy to get to. The rear dome/map light pops out pretty easy, and inside you will see the nut that the holds the fin on. Once you take the fin off after clipping the stock wires, you need to drill out the hole the wires are routed up into the antenna. But first, take apart the antenna and gut it out. otherwise, there is no room. Pretty crazy design in there...So anyway, i now have the GPS pod for my Escort system mounted in the stock antenna fin. Routing the wire is another story however. I am running mine down the b-pillar and forward along the driver door.

When I installed my RNS-E, I tapped into the fin antenna via the OnStar module which is located under the front passenger footwell. I don't re-call the part number of the lead needed, but I found it easily at a local VW dealer. Do a search for installs on audiforum.us/rns-e/ - meantime, if i find the link, I'll edit here

That's just what I would like to do LIRS6. Nice to know I can tap into the Onstar Sat antenna. I will do more research on the topic. But any future help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Found this on audiform - this is what I did http://audiforum.us/cables-adapters-...rns-e-gps.html fyi, you buy a, say, 6 foot fakra / fakra extension, attach it to the lead from the sharkfin GPS antenna which you will find at the OnStar module under the front pass footwell (you will have to remove the glovebox, and part of the doorsill, and pull up the carpeting to get to the OnStar unit). Remove the OnStar unit as it is dead weight anyway. Run the Fakra/Fakra lead to your RNS-E unit. Voila. Mine works perfectly. I don't recall if the Fakra/Fakra extension is male/female or female/female or male/male - you'll have to figure that out when you check the antenna lead going into the OnStar module. Good luck.

Thanks for the Info LIRS6. Started to do some searching and found that TeddyBgame seems to be the Navigation Guru. As a matter of fact he had a C5 RS6. My only issue will be if the Extension cable will plug into the Kenwood Unit. I went to my local dealer to check out the Kenwood DNX9960 NAV unit, and all I can say is that this unit in phenomenal. The display and Navigational Graphics are the best I've seen outside of the Portable units. The Quality of the construction seems to be Top Notch also. And its very customizable, all colors can be set to match your cars interior. A built in DSP also allows you to shape the sound to your cars interior. A very good unit indeed.......

As a matter of fact Steve I was going for the Alpine (Ina-W900), until I went to the store and saw the Kenwood. The sharp Graphics and colors blew me away. At any rate both very good units.....

I was going to get the Kenwood, then asked about the Alpine and they said the graphics were better on the Kenwood but the Alpine sound quality was higher, I like my music so went with the Alpine. Also got a really good price including the Nav. However the Graphic sare slightly dated compared to the Kenwood but Im still a happy man.

Elevens, just as LIRS6 pointed out you can use the GPS antenna going to the Onstar system since the analog Onstar system is now dead. I was able to pull the carpet back and unthread enough of the cable to get it to stretch up and hook into my RNS-E without having to use and extension. For it to work with the RNS-E it just plugs in, the same type of connection, for a Kenwood or Alpine unit I have no idea. The GPS plug for our cars is known as a Fakra lead. Many of the conversion parts can be found here. http://kufatec.com/

Thanks Hahnmgh63. I'll have to look for some kind of adapter, If one exists. I have just recently heard of this Kufatec. One of the very few places left for Nav parts since Navplus is apparently dead.....................
