For me, the only thing I am not hip on is the Alumi look A-C pillars. Everything else is not too shabby at all. I could see drving one if they have a S Line quattro TDI (and yes, I know the "S" will not be TDI ).

The A1/S1 is a NO quattro car, FWD only.

Is it really confirmed that the no variant of the A1/S1 will have quattro? One rumor has a form of quattro based on the fronttrak configuration and an electric motor(s) powering the rear wheels in a hybrid format. This approach is similar to that unveiled earlier today on the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

If, for example, the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor, then around the city, it would be rear wheel drive, if powered by electricity alone.

I agree. The aluminium trim has to go. It works for me on the A4 Cabriolet(just wind shield trim), but not on this. Way too thick, too much.

You can choose the color of the trim, like the sideblade of the R8. I think the aluminium isn't even the standard trim. There'll be a number of colour options, probably increasing as the model ages. The interior is equally custom-able. They are obviously aiming square for the Mini.

The car weighs just over 1000kg, no need for AWD, it would just make it heavier and less playful. It is one of the lightest cars in its class, and has a very good weight balance. AWD would spoil it. I think it's going to be markI GTi type fun.

Is that weight confirmed? That is lighter than the first gen BMW Mini!

Wow, then that is quite good. The MkI BMW Mini first weighed @ 1115 I think...

Don't hold your breath for any A1 tdi quattro. Probably it won't come with less than 1.4tfsi (182ps)!

Probably not now but given the fact that Audi offer a quattro version of both diesel and petrol on every other model it would be logical to expect the same thing to happen here.

Initial limited run of 500 units planned for autumn 2011 to test the market acceptance.

Weight addition through quattro: ~150 KG

Sure promises to be a hot rocket

This must be the S1 you are talking about it can't be any other model, especially if it gets 230hp, that would mean Audi having a more powerful A1 quattro than A3 quattro which would be unheard of. Since they have two prototypes being tested by the press would this not suggest that two versions will make it to production.
