Radar / Detection Mods "For the Track"

So I definitley need to invest in some radar detection devices and laser diffusers.

Has anyone else on our forum invested in these kinds of items. If so, what ones did you decide on and why. I realise the best / safest way to not get caught / injured is to stay the speed limit and drive carfully but we have RS6 S6 and S8. That should say enough

    Thanks in advanced!

    Valentine 1

Been using the V1 for 8+ years and wouldn't use anything else.

The reason is because of the arrows that show/tell me where the signal is coming from. This allows me to react according. PLUS anytime newer technology comes out I can send my V1 back to be upgraded. This ensures it never is really out of date.

Bel Pro RX75 Remote, it's fully integrated and as a remote is very well hidden! Though I didn't install it myself, was installed when I bought the car and have come to love it tremendously!

V1 all the way. I mount mine up high on the driver's visor and pull power from the integrated garage door opener. Even with the legal tint on the windows it is all but invisable from the outside. Being as high up as possible also buys you more range (up to 6dB compared to K2 front grill installs). Can't use the visor anymore but sunglasses are cheap - especially compared to the new ticket schemes many states are imposing (you pay a fine every year for another 3 years!).

If you can afford it and are willing to have a permanant installation, K-40 is the only way to go. Keep in mind that K-40 hold the patent on "true" front and rear radar detection with SEPARATE modules installed in the front and rear bumpers. V1 uses a "mirror" system that bounces the front signal to the back. It is subject to interference if you have any metal in your window tint, etc. and need good line-or sight to the rear with the module placed up high on the windshield.

I didn't realize this myself until I had my first K-40 installed.

Here is a link to the manufacturer's web site: http://www.k40.com/

I have the front/rear radar detector and front laser jammer/detector (that option has really saved my bacon!). The module is hidden away under the dash with volume control, on/off, city mode, highway mode.

The two LED indicators are installed in my dash and reflect up on the plexiglass when activated. If I get pulled over and can very quickly switch the system off and there is no wat to tell that I have a detector system.

Here is a link to my car's installation on a local K-40 dealer's site:

Click on K-40 then Audi. You will see one of my Avus Silver RS6 installations there: http://carphones.com/joomla/index.ph...pose&Itemid=96

    I love my setup!

Ok, I have been on planet Sponge Bob for the last few years, but when in did it become illegal to use a radar/ladar detector in your vehicle? I know that several states make use of a radar/ladar detector or jammer illegal. I had something called a passport when I lived in the Bellevue area of Washington state that was good for instant-on radar. By the time it chirped, it was already too late.

Could someone inform me of what has changed, without the flamethrower?

    Thanks!

I'm not a lawyer but my understanding is that emitting RF (radar jamming) is generally illegal. However, lasers are controled by the FDA (go figure)and to date there are no restrictions against them. This does not mean that the trooper who finds you using one will be understanding. Usual strategy is to throw out the anchor and get your chariot down to the limit and then kill the jammer so he gets a late lock registering legal!

If you are alone on the road and smokey is using instant-on radar you are still probably going to be toast. You need some sparse traffic for him to be actively emitting so you can pick up a few diffractions as warning. Luckily I live in a relatively "target rich environment" where the local constabulary are lazy enough to leave their gear transmitting any time they are rolling so I see them coming from miles away.

There are some websites that demonstrate good results with laser jammers but the manufacturers are now using increasingly more sophisticated signal polarization schemes to stay ahead.

    Hope this helps...

Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles. Virginia and Washington DC are the only 2 states in the United States that currently ban the use of radar detectors.

There is a federal law banning use of radar detectors in any commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds. Radar detectors are also illegal on any military base.

    More legal information:

If you are pulled over and the police office sees that you are using a detection device, your chances of talking your way out of a speeding ticket or getting a warning go to zero. They don't like them and it tells them "I usually speed, this is why I purchased this device".

Still, I feel naked without it in my RS6.

    Copper~

Is that your RS6 with the wood grain around the gauges, Speedo and Tach? If so, where did you get the kit?

i use the v1. however, i have fully integrated it to the can-bus of the car so that it sends its warnings (direction, type and stregnth) to the drivers information system (the top 2 lines of the display). i use the interface box from automotive data research. the v1 is completely dark (as it is when you have it hooked up to the remote).

all the programming changes you make to the v1 are also confirmed in the display.

there is one further advantage of this install and that it you have software in the interface box which you can use to customise the setup and display of the device. for instance i have set up a full auto-mute on all alerts when i am travellining <50km/hr.

i also procured and wired up the audi "roller blind" switch to operate (via a simple relay) the v1 mute and garage door functions on the car. as this switch is meant for the blank in the dash switch nearest to me, it is a excellent position for the mute button...

Have to add my vote for V1. The others have there pluses and work, but the detection of radar and laser are both excellent on the V1 and has saved me from the "decoy a quarter mile before the trap scenario" more than once as well as allowing "wife" to slow down 15 mph before the laser got a lock. "still got toasted, just not burnt as bad". Now looking for the "Guys of Lidar" to do there yearly review before getting a better defense for laser. "currently leaning towards the Pro Park"

I have to say, my remote saved my ass over the weekend when I drove out to meet up with the guys for the Julian run. I was tooling down the 15 (I-15) coming around a bend into Temecula and my radar detector went beserk, I broke from ~100 down to speed of traffic around 75-80 and who did I see as I come around the bend but a friendly neighborhood California Highway Patrol sitting there waiting for unsuspecting drivers.

I have the K40 Calibre full set up on my S6 and the ML63 and it performs flawlessly. If you get someone who knows what they are doing to install it, it can be moved to other vehicles. I like the LED's in the dash as well. Super stealthy. Just my 2 cents...
