Hans.
looks not bad, but for my taste to short overhangs
not too bad. the front in the 1st pic (from that angle) reminds me of a saab. but the rear is pretty reasonable
i don't really like it, but i just don't understand why we need an A3 cabriolet, don't tell me it is for competing with the bmw 1series cabriolet, because no one is gona buy that car... just so ugly to be a threat
heaven for the climate, hell for company
Do you see the family resemblance at the rear with the A5, what you are seeing is the new image for the whole range, so expect something very similar to this for the A4 and A6.
As for the A3 Cabio, I personally don't like the look in these shots, but as it's dull and in a dark colour a lot of the detail isn't easily seen. Hopefully some shots in better light and in a silver or something will reveal a nice design, but at the minute I am a little underwhelmed.

New A3 cabrio picture on the autobahn near zwickau.
Hans.
It looks better but I'm still not blown away by it. It might be one of those cars like the 3 series coupe which looks miles better in the fresh.

I'm a great believer that a car has to be design to be a cabio from the start and alas I still believe this.

Another pic.
Hans.
If I had long blond hair and nice legs then I would be first in line. Alas it's brown and the legs are as hairy and ugly as it gets, so it a S5 for me.

It looks like some one has put audi logos on a golf 3 cab.
Why do we need a a3 cab and a a5 avant, it dosent make any sense
Yeah, your possibly right, but for something which is meant to be a early test mule to fit and finish of these fake panels look very finish product to me.
The A5 rear look is the way forward for the entire range, why would you bring out a Cabio just for the A3 is to get a face-lift and not give it the new look. This you can do on something like a Cabio because of the uniqueness of the product without harming the rest of the range.
What do you think.

Maybe because the trend in cabriolet design goes into the cc (coupe & cabrio) route: a metal roof (VW Eos, BMW 3 series, Opel Astra, Ford Focus, Peugeot 307, Renault Megane...)
This design has one big problem - how do you desing a rear of the car, which does not get out of proportion? The only really goog looking CC rear is the SLK.
If you look at the A3 Cabrio - soft top -> no long, "ugly" overhang at the rear.
I think it is a good idea of Audi to stay with the soft top route (the planned A5 cab is supposed to get one too). As Audi is very design driven - that is the way to go.
I read somewhere, that the 3 series cab might be the first & last BMW with a tin roof - next gen. 3 series getting a soft top again.

One question, will the front end of the convertible make it onto the A3 hatchback and Sportback? Any facelift news?

Taz,
This is what I hinted before, the cabio is getting the new tail and front design in readiness for the A3's face-lift which I believe will be in 2009.
