RS6 track use wheels/tires: what size/brands are best?

    Hi guys,

Since I'm putting the beast on the track quite regularly, I am thinking about buying an extra set of wheels & tires, so I can spare my streets a bit (pilot sport ps2 on 19").

I'd first like to know what size wheels/tires are best for the track. Many people are telling me 18" should be better. Also tips regarding width, brand, etc etc are more than welcome.

Would love to hear your opinions,

    Thanks.

I have heard many good things about Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, but you have to check first, if those can carry such heavy load ? Track tires are definetly good idea as street tires don't withstand any longer sessions. I would also vote for 18" and I guess standard size is the way to go.

This is a big heavy car. Nine or 9.5 inch width will help. Others are running PSCs on the track with no problems. My personal opinion is that PSCs are the best track lapping tire you can get. Just make sure they are warm before you ask too much of them.
Be careful when looking at aftermarket 18 inch wheels, as there are clearance problems with the brakes. Verify ahead of time that they will clear. Kinesis wheels have been recommended by at least a couple of RS6 track junkies. Be aware that you may have to wait 8 or more weeks for delivery of some of the better wheels for this car as they have to be manufactured or imported.
Bottom line from what I've heard: Kinesis 18 x 9 wheels with 265/35-18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups.

These are fabulous wheels, but they weigh 39 pounds each.

We find ourselves in the whole tire load rating debate; technically, there is no Pilot Sport Cup with the proper load rating for the RS 6.
    '97 993TT, '14 E63 S-line, '17 GT-R and a couple of '12 Mini Cooper S Countryman ALL4s for the kids.

17.7kg.... Are they really that heavy?

I read that they were quite light wheels for their size... NOT. That's a big downside then for the bimoto's

I also found that, 89Y load index must be on the edge for a heavy RS6 avant with few passengers isn't it?...

265/35-18s fit with no problem on Kinesis 18 x 9 wheels. The rub issue is related to wheel offset. I suspect that 275 width tires will even work on wheels with ~et25 - ~et28 offset.

Yes, I posted a response to the tire thread you and Radiation Joe were posting in: http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread....4&goto=newpost

And yes, offset is more critical for fit.

39lbs is more than double the BBS Motorsport wheels I have... far too heavy.
