You couldn't ask for a better review than that one. By the sounds of it an even better everyday supercar than dare I say it the Carrera S or Turbo.

Will be interesting to see the two against each other in a full road test.

But next to the Porsche the steering lacks a bit in the way of feel and the Audi can’t match the 911’s perfect interplay between throttle and cornering line.
I knew that would happen. 911's are so nicely balanced.

Still the car is beautiful - would have both a 911 and R8 if I could afford it.

One thing of note - you can go on a short vacation in the 911 with ample luggage space for 2 people - you can't in the R8.

Steering feel is over rated especially on a road car. The rwd 911 is so light at the front that is bobs over the road surface, yes it has lots of feel but it takes time to learn that this is quite normal and only then does confidence finally come from the chassis. The RS4 (using this example because the R8 is unknown) has a lot less feel and this means less movement from the steering wheel allowing you to learn what the chassis is telling you quicker. The pros will disagree, but as these cars are mainly bought by Mr Average I think that Audi has always hit the right combination and believe the R8 will suit Mr Average just right.

    Thumbs up

I'm gonnna go out on a limb here and say that the R8 will be better balanced around a bend than a 911 (excluding new GT3), on real roads especially.

The midengine layout/weight balance has to account for something.

Since I drove both RS4s and 911s (including 996 TurboS, CS, C4S, BoxsterS) on the track I have to say that indeed the RS4 is much easier to drive. Its more forgiving and just simpler to go fast. You have to know what you're doing in a 911 and have the skills to do it. A lack of fear helps too. Since I was on the track I gave the 911s everything I had, and I'm sure that it could have gone much faster still.
