How long do they last on Average before they need replacing I know it's a different car but It had a Turbo (Volvo 850 T5) they had a Mitsubishi unit fitted to the 5cyl (ex Audi) engine and they were good for a bout 85k

when water cooled, as ours are, then they are good for at least 150k...
i know of rs2 turbo's still going @200km...

Our A4 1.8T quattro Avant has 313.000 km on the clock and the turbo still produces the required 0.6 bar.
