I kinda understand the M5 Estate.

For the same reasons I drive an Avant - I need the lugage space. Someone may prefer BMW's, doesn't want a SUV and wants high performance. However due to winter conditions I prefer AWD.

In my opinion, this car will be a hit among bmw lovers. Too bad they haven't widened the body a bit on the rear tires. I do not think this is an ugly car to be honest.
    Get out and drive

The first E34 M5 Touring was produced in March 1992 with production running through to August 1995. All were 3.8 and obviously LHD.

As for the current model, I think they should have kept the standard M5 alloys rather than put the M6 wheels on it. The extra slab-sidedness of the Touring makes the wheels look tiny.

That trend is very present on the limousine, all most 85 % of all e60 M5s I saw had those M6 wheells...

Your right Andy. I've been seeing more and more Saloon's with the M6 alloys. These do not look that bad.

It's just with the added bulk of the Touring model, the wheels look lost in the arches!

The only explanation i can find is that BMW don't want to let audi and MB rule the competition, they want there share in, and of course they can relie on many buyers who will go just for the name...

Yeap, I thought of that but I reckoned I should put the question out to the rest of you.

    Speedou,

I couldn't agree more, thanks god because that paves the way for RS Audis to walk all over them.

Having purchased an E55 estate for my wife, I got it because I didn't want to get an SUV. I'm still not a big fan of Mercedes. It is not the best handling vehicle in the world, but it gets the job done and it has plenty of power. The fact of the matter is none of these cars make sense. They're bought because the people that buy them are passionate about their performance.

The only reason I didn't get the M5 estate for her is that it wasn't available.
I would imagine the bulk of these cars are purchased by enthusiast husbands.

These cars have nothing to do with sanity or reason.
