That looks like an RS6 speedo, the cluster doesn't have a color display, and the redline on the cluster looks to be about 7000rpms

He's right. It's the speedo of an RS6.

Yes, forgot to write that it's a B5 RS4. Not a B7, the B7's revcounter goes a little bit longer than that...

It's more or less a running gag, nobody really knows for now and in fact many don't really care. The M3, as many are saying, is a more dedicated car so it should be faster. But it's not only the speed (acceleration in this case) that makes a car. If it was, everyone would be driving a topfull dragster... For my part the RS4 is a better all year around car with a pretty darn good acceleration and comparing the M3 and RS4 is like comparing apples to oranges, it's worthless, you better like one buy this one, that's it.

And remember this, with these cars it's much more the driver than the car that makes the difference. A 10% power increase is easily wasted if you miss a shift!

I don't think, that the M3 can be faster than THIS RS4 (B5). If I am right, than this should be the 602hp MTM-Version of the "old" RS4.

    Sad but true.

Well said BigRick... The "optional" behind the wheel is the one that counts!!!
As per the choice between the 2.... I think I take one of each and see for myself what to drive depending on the weather!

There isn't any question that the B7 RS4 is demonstrably faster than the E46 M3, CS version included (but now CSL, that is like a clubsport, so its a stupid comparison...)..

The new M3, well that remains to be seen, but given that it has less drivetrain loss, will be lighter, it probably will be faster, but probably by some very marginal ammount. It's not going to be seconds faster or even a full second faster. It may be a 1/3rd of a second faster...

But like its been said, that alone hardly makes the car.
