It is a lot easier to remove the battery and have it tested than to do the same for the alternator. So I'd start there, even if the odds favor an alternator problem.

I don't recommend the Blau kit for one reason: the water pump is crap.
Everything else is nice and looks OEM, but the water pump I was sent didn't fit right and the plastic impeller was poorly cast.
Doesn't the valley pan gasket seal the top of the crankcase? How does it cause a coolant leak?
I have never seen the valley pan of the V8, but on the V6 when it leaks, it leaks oil.
Personally...
Nice!
Did you have any problems with the oil cooler lines? I'm afraid to undo mine from the cooler, expecting galling on the aluminum threads.
I am not sure if the C5 servotronic is like the C4 version, but on the C4 it is common to remove the relay without any ill effects. As I recall there is a solenoid in the rack itself which regulates...
I bought the Castrol Turbo-Diesel oil that Audi specifies from a local dealer. It wasn't substantially more expensive than e.g. Mobil 1. I don't see any reason to deviate from the factory...
I have a South Bend Stage 3 "street" clutch waiting to go into my RS6. Anyone have feedback on this particular unit?
I think the transmission is the major variable. The turbos aren't a common failure, and the DRC can be dealt with in various ways. (A low dollar option would be to swap in the suspension from a A6...
With some electronic glue it should be fairly easy to make the paddles control the RNS-E. If I remember right the paddles are simple momentary switches that go through the T17m blue connector. Then...
There is a CEL for "Performance Malfunction in Cooling System".
Note that you CAN have a failing thermostat without overheating. If the thermostat sticks open you will have "underheating" -- it...
I usually get full service* so I'll have to go with the gasoline on this one.
* The town I live in bans self service gas as do some of the neighboring towns. As a native New Jerseyan this seems...
Almost -- the N80 valve is even easier :)
I am running the hawk 609F part number above.
I don't have any deep knowledge of the RS6 ECU, but from what I can tell the EGT intermittent signal code doesn't hurt power, at least not dramatically -- my car has this from time to time and it's...
I don't think it's related to the lockup part of the torque converter -- that shouldn't come into play until steady state cruising. If anything the torque converter should be helping get off the...
It was from a dig, but I didn't do any brake torqueing or anything, and the start was not great. (I don't know if it's only my car or what but if I just mash the gas from a stop, often there is a...
Woah. That's less than 7 MPG in old money.
That's impressive. I found out recently, to my chagrin, that a C5 RS6 is no match for a naturally aspirated 991 Carrera S. That was a surprise.
There is the usual pipe loop in front of the AC condenser.
One thing I noticed when I was doing my timing belt was that the plastic core support looked like it was modified by hand. On one side, the air intake is molded in. On the other side it appeared to...

I would leave the coils alone. You can always replace them later if there is a problem. It's not a known weak spot, and you only need to remove the air box to replace them (cf. e.g. front O2s,...
The proper tool from Audi would surely make the job easier. I made do with a modified generic tool but it was definitely not ideal.
Interesting. luck of the draw I guess. I think I need to do the 'stat in my A6 again soon. either that or the gauge/sender is off. At least on the V6 it is relatively easy. I had to do the...
Incidentally I've replaced 5 or 6 thermostats on the 3 Audis I've owned to date. All the same design, all but one from the dealer with the OOOO stamp. I've never replaced a thermostat on any other...
I wouldn't suspect the sensor for that. It could be the thermostat is starting to stick open a little. The gauge is not linear so who knows how cool you are running. I'd take a look at the coolant...
