I have no sources of inside information but I believe 550hp plus will have to be on tap to topple the E63 and M5. I cannot imagine Audi introducing something slower than the competition.

There was no space for 550+ or 580 (flat) so I put 580+ but in reality, I believe it will get 580, no more than that.

Audi will need 580 hp from a twin turbo to be able to take down the E63 and M5 on acceleration. Any thing less will be a true dissapointment as a NA 520 or so hp engine won't move the heavier (yes the RS6 will of course be heavier than the M5/E63 no matter what Audi does to it) as quick as the competition, and in this class the bragging rights are important. A 5.2 V10 with FSI direct injection engine should not have any problems making 580 hp (space permiting) as the previous RS6 made 450-480 out of an engine with two less cylinders (the new V10 is just the old V8 with two more cylinders). Of couse packaging is the only possible problem.

This (undated) article [http://www.lemonlawvehicle.com/wordp...0/20/446.html] says they'll try to squeeze a V12 up front.

Although hoping for 580+,voted 550 ,since I don't believe Audi planners will have enough balls to go over that number.
I hope to be proven wrong....

Think it will be 500-520 normally aspirated. Instead of turbos how about a supercharger?

Don't think so,since superchargers are considered to be "yesterday technology" and new turbo designs are extremely efficient and tractable.

VW have supercharged and turbocharged the Golf GT and according to some reports this has been reasonably successful!

That one was done for improved economy not performance.
SC works initially and then shuts off when turbos spool up.
In high performance engines though, there is too much loss of power at higher speeds so turbos are more efficient way .
Audi is not even working on that application as of now, so the only question for us would be NA or TT?

560HP minunum like i said before and the surprize is 580HP like everyone wants!Si si not 550HP is 560HP minimum 0-100km/h in 4,1-4.0s and without limitations will have 320km/h!Did anyone say that a big tuner had made modifications to an Audi A4 B7 and put on the 2,7L Turbo engine 650HP?0-100 in 3,4s...340km/h...because of the Quattro and shassy...the new RS6 will definetely have more power and beat the crap of the M5 and E63 AMG!

That's the way to go 580+ not less, as it will be a big dissapointment. Yesterday I was in My RS6 ( Modified by Sportec ) and beat the dealers Carrera S Manual Gear form Stanstill and from 50. This car perform when the temps are low (it was 14C). I hope that they solve the heat issues with the new ones.

Modified in what way out of interest? Haven't found a 997 to have a play with yet so not sure how I'd get on....
    Then: RS4 Stage III 470bhp
Now: RS6+ Standard for now. EDIT: Make that 508bhp
