i have to admit it is a little dissapointing to see that
the m3 still finishes on top but at least they did have
many good things to say about the all new s4. and
although it did not place 1st at least it did not place
last. ( after all it would be a pretty sad state when
    volvos start beating audis ).

I think this is to be expected, the S4 is better in some ways and the M3 in others. IMO they are both (or at least seem to be in terms of the S4) very nice cars both built with differents goal.
The M3 is built to be a drivers car and the S4 to be a sporty allround car. I think they both reach there goal very well and I'm lookong forward to the RS4 which will in no doubt be faster than the M3, maybe it will be more involving or at least as involving ast the M3 as well. I certainly hope so.

I also hope that in the future BMW will offer the M cars as touring and with AWD as an option.

    Cheers,
    /Johan

Just felt I should put in my .02 cents...........

I've been eagerly awaiting the release of this new Audi S4.
IMO, it's probably the best all around sedan built in its price range.

I've never been a big fan of these 'ratings'.
    Too subjective.
The M3 wins, b/c of performance.
The S4 wins for everyday drivability.
Writer was obviously a sports oriented driver.

I own an E46 M3, and in Canada, our winter's can get ugly.
Would I drive my M in the Canadian winters? No.
Go on a 2-day driving trip? No.
Would I drive a S4 in these situations? Hell ya.

The M3 is more on the scale of performance.
The S4, is more on the side of everyday drivability and comfort.

The M3 is better in some area's, as the S4 is in others.

Now I just need to convince the wife that we need an S4 for our everyday car......

I think that the Volvo is a bit over-priced. Okey, it's really fast and cool but hey, it's still a Volvo? You do pay a bit for the brand and Volvo S60 R (the R was left out in the comparising chart ) is in my opinion not quit in the same league as the well known M3 and S4.

But the are surely on their way. I hope they succed!!
