Very nice. I've read a few interviews and articles about how well prepared Audi is for this year's race, I really really hope they are as prepared as they say they are. Also I just saw the qualy times....and the lap times for the R10 TDI are nowehere near as good as the Pugs...I gotta give the french some credit, they have advance a lot since they started racing in Le Mans.

Saludos.

I just don't understand why they are still slower than Peugeot?? They had a completely new car last year and made a new one for this year as well, while Peugeot is a 3 years old construction! What is the point of making a new car if not that they want to be faster? I'm pretty sure they know the answer for it, after 8 wins, they know what they do, but i simply don't understand. Peugeot is not that unreliable any more to afford being slower then them and overtaking while in the box.

Now i have the answer for my question. Congratulations to Audi, they did a magnificent work, absolutely no failure in the 3 cars during 5410km of race. Really stunning.

By the way, can someone give us some more info about the R15's TDI engine? I know most of it is secret but something like charging pressure, turbos, torque, what rpm does it supply it's full torque/power? Is it bi-turbo or single turbo? And probably the most interesting: shall we ever see a descendant of that engine in a road car? So anyone? Qisha?

Thanks,
Tom

Toto- i've been thinking the same thing. That engine (or half of it) will be seen in some way on a road going car. i bet the next R8 is being engineered to accept a TDI that can be cooled.

The other thing that Audi kept hush-hush was the use of a variable turbine geometry turbo.

http://www.audiusanews.com/newsrelease.do?id=1830

I thought this was a given, as their TDI engines are using VTG turbos. Guess when it's running at 1,000C, that's a whole new ball game!

Found this elsewhere, obviously not from Audi :)

Very interesting, thanks for that pdf! According that, R15 engine has 2.59 bar of boost. I wonder how much had Peugeot. Audi also claims that a LMP class race car is better than a Formula 1 car, because it has much more technical solutions that can be used in the street. But how about speed between them? Winner car had a higher avarage speed during the 24 hours than a F1 car in a 1.5-2 hours race. Does it mean Le Mans cars are faster in straight line (as we know, Le Mans track is much more about straights)?

Distressing news for R15's from Silverstone:nana:
I'm afraid 1000km is still not enough for Audi to win a race, their advantage only come into reality on longer races, especially in Le Mans, where the long flat-out zones destroyes everybody else's engines. Peugeot is still faster, although the practice session was surprisingly good.

when is the R15 replacement due?2011?

Yes, as the R18! It is going to be a closed cockpit racer since they are trying to even out the Peg's performance advantages...

I don't see the connection between them :vhmmm: Does aerodynamics count that much? That's hard to believe! Personally i can't even see why closed cockpit cars have better aerodynamics.

open-cockpit is far better for pit stop - change of drivers

darkop

Closed cockpit is preferable for better performance/top speed... Audi used to have an advantage in pit stops because of the open cockpit at beginning and that was giving them an edge at the end of the race, but in recent years that advantage disappeared by more clever cockpit assembling solutions and also strategies by Peugeot, so now Audi are focusing in closing the performance gap that has been built up in meantime!

aerodynamics is so huge that peugeot denied audi entering last year's sebring race because of some last minute aero changes not allowed by the ALMS.
