Drove the Q5 3.0 TDI the other night, some poor bloke in an new E92 coupe by the red lights didn't stand a chance, probably was a 325i..

Must say I was most impressed by handling, ride, comfort and the cockpit is just amazing, the new MMI-nav with hard-drive etc etc etc. YUMMY!!

So now I have a Q5 3.0 TDI Daytonagrey with S-line, Panorama-roof, 20" RS6-styled rims and lots of goodies inside, cant wait to turn in the cab, but it won't probably be here before late March/beginning of April..

Should look something like this when delivered :wo:

Congratulations!

Sounds like a nice combo, after seeing the car in real life and had a sit in it. I must say I'm impressed, much better than I expected!

Don't forget pics when it arrives! :thumb:

Thanks!

Compared to an A4 Avant, with the same amount of extras, it really isnt that much more expensive here in Sweden, since there's a lot more included in packages that comes with a handy price..

I think this car has ALOT of design and functionality, very impressive imho, especially the engine and S-tronic makes THE perfect combination! :D

I had a pleasure of driving very simmilar Q5, like the one you ordered, only difference was in color, the one I was driving was white, everything else was there.

I must say that I really loved the car! You have made a great choice! Enjoy the car...!

i dont like this half suv very much but at least you ordered the best engine version with the bang 3.0 V6. This must be very funny in the winter with the quattro ^^

I was basically chosing between a Q5, A4 Avant or Allroad, and since I need the extra ground clearance my final was Q5 vs. Allroad, I really dont fancy the big Allroad, I dont have any kids so I really dont need the extra space in the back seat, and I think the "new" SUV segment with a bit more reasonably sized cars is a great compromise in regards to fuel economy and useability. The Q7 was never on my radar, too big!

Erik, tack! ;)

1st: congrats on your great choice, had a chance to drive the 2.0 TDI (and as i have an A4 with the same HP = 170) and compare it to an A4.

To your order, without knowing any details, your 1st promised delivery date seems too optimistinc to me - a brand new model in high demand to be produced within 2 months (assuming order begging of feb. - del. end of march).

Another sidenote, Audi is stopping production in feb. for couple of days - maybe this affects your delivery as well.

Keep the figers crossed for a rapid delivery :thumb:

Thanks for the kind words, I also truly believe this car is a hoot, especially engine/gearbox will be great!

Order was made late in January, my sales guy said production for 3.0 TDI (low demand) should be in should be in late March/beginning of April, and I should predict 4-5 weeks from prod. to delivery.

With the credit crunch and -30% on sales, I dont feel that "high demand" is their biggest problem, especially not on the 3.0 TDI, this is what I was told before order at least..

I believe they are cutting down in production, hence the delay..

We had the bigger Q7 for a while, it was a wonderful family car but it's weight dulled the potential of the 3.0TDi and it's size made maneuvers down backroads and parking tricky for the wife. This could be the ideal solution for her when her next change is due and I just might enjoy the poke that the 3.0TDi in something more willing to get up and go.

I agree 100%, my girlfriend isnt as used to driving as I am, and having her spinning around in a Q7 would certainly mean death & destruction for pedestrians and bumpers :vhmmm:

If I was looking at the Q7, I'd also feel forced to go for the 4.2 TDI, which then would create an even more expensive solution than the Q5 will be.

Ps. is that your wife in your picture ? If so, congratulations! ;)

And yes, youre right - one should enjoy while it last, which those buttocks doesn't for long when in a steady relationship from my expericence... should come with a warning sticker;

Quick update - cancelled the order with my previous Audi dealer since he couldn't adjust the trade in date for my convertible (1/3) and delivery was moved forward to summer, unacceptable in my opinion.

A new order was put through with another dealer, which could offer me a better solution for my trade in, and now it seems it might be built next week already, which would mean delivery in about 4-6 weeks = Crossing my fingers!! ;)

ps. my colleague took a XC60 from the showroom, what a shitty car that is :P

Production week planned to week 19, delivery scheduled somewhere around 1st of June. Wait is manageable, since cab season has arrived at least.. Trying to enjoy every second of my 3.2 engine until I give it up for the oil burner.. :stick:

Just found the first two pictures I've ever seen on the Q5 in Daytona grey, looks absolutely immaculate to me! :wo:

I should have it delivered early week 23 hopefully! :)

1st: Congrats!

2nd: Sorry for the F Up. I personally know orders that get mixed/messed up can be frustrating.

We ordered a Q7 4.2L S line back when they came out and the dealer ordered the wrong configuration. Long story short we ended up getting something else.

Here's to hoping yours goes smoother.

wow. Finaly something is happening :dig:

how about the interior, is that full gloss black? Leather? Looks like you choose B&O Audio, you wont regreat that :thumb:

cazorp
May 26th, 2009, 01:16
Thanks MPT, and to answer your questions; yes, yes, yes, YES! ;) full black, with interior S-line/milan-leather with extra leather on door sides center arm-rest, piano black interior lists. Probably easier if I told the options I opted not to go for;

NO:
Electric seats
Dimmed exterior mirrors
Lane assist
Drive select
Radar cruise control
TV-function
Telephone set
Satelite radio (dont think theres much to listen to in Sweden after all..)

Basically I left out all the expensive electical gizmos, except B&O sound system, bluetooth, MMI Nav Plus and so on. In sweden we have a proline package, trailer package, S-line package, S-line exterior package (wanted that, but opted not to since its alot of money for a tricked out bumper front and back..)

Does anyone know what the most comfortable size should be for winter tyres on the Q5? What's minimum 18" with 225's perhaps? Im thinking of getting really grippy winter tyres since I do alot of hunting in the woods during October - January, with quite a bit of driving to the hunting gounds, so something low friction with great off-road performance would be a neat thing during winters! ;)

Ok, finally took delivery today and I am very pleased, color, wheels, tint, interiors - I don't think there is a nicer combination on the Q5, although S-line exterior would have been nice as well, but not worth my money.

Car is great to drive, comfortable and still pretty stiff, havent driven more than 100 km's today, so I guess I'll wait some more before I give final impressions! ;)

My GF took som pictures today, enjoy! :)

I obviously agree =)

What I have read about the 3.2 FSI for the Q5 isn't very neat, they say its a good engine, but in the wrong car basically.

I've discovered a very annoying squeak, very low but high pitched, and I can hear it from just a few km/hour, so I am guessing gift-wrap department left some of the blue plastic foam that new cars seems to come with, perhaps in suspension or some other moving part, any clue where I should look? :(

Bit dissapointed today, read in the manual that S-tronic was fitted with launch control, but then I found an added note to the manual, stating that A/S4, A/S5, Q5 and so on does not have launch control..

cazorp,

Am I right in saying that it's the interior that is S/Line but the exterior is normal S/E?

Also your rims, off an RS6 I'm guessing, these aren't available in the UK, how much extra were they?

cazorp

Leadfoot

Yes, standard exterior but with S-line, don't know if that changes anything exterior. Tried to use the configurator on audi.co.uk, but it is completely different from the swedish one, less packages it seems

Here's my swedish spec - can be ordered in germany as well, so I would prompt Audi UK to fix some of the optios I have if you would like to have them.

The rims are optional 20" with S-line package (standard is 19" from Quattro GMBH) and costs 5600 SEK (about £450 ) + VAT here in Sweden.

Here's my complete spec, I've tried to translate as good as it gets from Swedish;

Audi Q5 3.0 TDI quattro 176(240) kW(ps) S tronic
Color Daytona grey Pearl effect
Upholstery Black/black-Black/black/black
Factory equipment:
Proline package
Trailer package
Technics package
S line
Milano leather with embossed S line logo in the front seat backs (quattro GmbH)
MMI-navigation plus
Xenon Plus with LED-tail lights
Full body paint (incl. lower part below doors) – IMPORTANT, looks crap without this opytion imo.
Leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles
Panorama sun roof
Tinted windows
Back seat plus - Brilliant, gives an extra 200 mm loading space in the back when neeed.
Black piano look interior lists (quattro GmbH)
Under floor storage tray in boot
Leather package
Audi parking system plus
Light and rain sensor with head light assistent
Bang & Olufsen Sound System
Aluminium rims Audi exclusive 8,5Jx20 5-segment (255/45R20)

Proline contains:
- Radio Concert
- Cruise control
- Centre armrest
- Onboard computer in color
- Alarm

Trailer package contains:
- Luggage compartment lid, electrically opening and closing
- Trailer hitch manually swiveling
- Storage package 3
- Aluminum ”entry lists”
- Stainless steel Luggage compartment list
- Rails system with load-securing set
- Load liner with reversible mat

Technology package contains:
- Audi Music interface
- Automatic 3-zone climate control
- Bluetooth Interface with hands-free (voice control)
- Exterior mirrors, electrically folding/adjustable/heated

S line package contains:
- Aluminum Alloy wheels 8J X 19 5-spoke design

Thanks for the explanation. :thumb:

To me it appears that the UK cars receive a slightly different nose and tail treatment compared to Sweden but our choice of rim options are very limited with S/Line, only the 20" version of the RS4 and another awful cross-spoke, none of the great options that seem to be offered with the S/E version.

I actually took the wife down to the local dealer for a test drive, beautiful 2.0TDi S/Line sitting in Lava Grey. We previously had a big Q7 before and though she hated driving it because of it's size I thought that the smaller Q5 might just fit the bill but no joy she still thinks it's way to big for her. She has settled on a Tiguan and after checking the Q5 is only 202mm (8 inches) longer and 71mm (3 inches) wider, but in her mind it's closer to one and a half foot longer and about half a foot wider.

I wonder who told her that 3 inches was actually 6 inches. Well I have to keep up the image of being a big boy the trouser department now don't I. ;)

P.S.
It's still the best driving SUV on sale and one of the prettiest too. And Audi need to develop a high performance version of this car because it's the best starting point that has been in this sector, not even the Cayenne or X6 feels this will sorted in the handling department.

cazorp

Getting time to start looking for winter tyres and rims, I'd like to have optimal traction/moveability in winter conditions, but I wont go for spike tyres since 80% of my driving is on wet city roads. What do you reckon is the optimum rim size and any good tyres you recommend?

I use 255/50/18 on Q7, Bridgestone Blizzaks - good traction in snow, slush and reasonable on ice. Good tread life
