Here's a thread for Audi to read, so please post what you would like.

What would you like from the coming Audi RS5?

Santa, sorry Audi, are you listening?

- something between 450 and 500 HP
- a lot of exclusive combinations
- aggresive design
- RS4 rims
- bi turbo engine
- a plus version like the on RS6
- a DSG version ?

Is that enough ?

P.S. the most important wish : IT SHOULD COME NEXT YEAR

Things I would like to see on the forthcoming RS5.

1. Exclusive customizations/combinations (interior & exterior colors, seat materials, dash materials, etc.)
2. The RS4's 4.2L V8 420HP FSI (Same engine, I dont need more HP)
3. Use of Aluminum / Weight Saving Components to reduce weight by 100lbs.
3. Get this here no more than 1 year after the m3 arrives.

this is what i wish to see on RS5

1) new engine, 4.4 bi-turbo with 470+hp ,which will be lighter than 4.2 V8 FSI...
2) magnetic ride
3) direct shift gearbox
4) balanced weight destrebution..
5) much more power output to rear wheels and less to front, but Still Quattro... (like on R8)
6) Exclusive customizations/combinations (interior & exterior colors, seat materials, dash materials, etc.)
7) No Understeer
8) Use of Aluminum & Weight Saving Components to reduce weight...
9) i want it on april 2008

Hahaa, could not resist this bite so here comes my RS5 wish list to Santa:

1) 4.2L V8 FSI N/A from RS4 modified to 450PS/450Nm
2) Short-throw and slick 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG
3) Further improved electronics-free DRC with SS+ option from RS4
4) Like RS4, lower weight than equivalent S-car - i.e. S5 (1630kg)
5) QTV
6) Louder and sexier exhaust note than RS4, M3 or C63
7) Even quicker and more feelsome steering set-up than RS4
8) Better flow and less understeer in tight bends than in RS4
9) As good ride comfort as in RS4
10) (Afforable) factory sports pack with 19", Ceramics and SS+

In development work, do not benchmark the car against M3 or C63 - but rather R8 and 911 GT3 and C4S and try to create as similar experience as possible given weight and weight distribution

RS5 will have the engine from the RS4 with biturbo and will develop at least 500HP(very sure source)....so be prepared...

A twin turbo FSI V8 would do the trick.

i would love to see it have more than 500hp but i doubt it.

wouldn't make sense gievn the RS6 will make 580.

i am wondering when the hell audi will replace that 4.2 liter engine.

finally, if audi put two turbos into the RS4 engine to make an RS5 engine what would be the point of the R8's engine? the weight difference between the R8 and RS5 can't justify two turbos.

A new 4.4 Bi Turbo 480hp or 500hp engine. lighter than rs4 engine.
New Quattro, just special for the rs5.
1500kg or less;) Aluminum and carbon fiber, Just make it Lightweight for once.
Afcourse aggresive design.
a lot of options for interieur.
But, that's just what i hope.

Direct Shift
4.2 FSI TT (450hp and over 500lb)
if not DirectShift then a better clutch than the RS4 (my only complaint so far on this car)

Available within two years in Canada, please!
Last but not least, at least as enjoyable as the RS4 :)

Rick, you don't like the clutch in the RS4. Can I ask why? Is it possible that you have one of the early cars that had the clutch hose issue and you haven't gotten it repaired?

I just feel it's too long & high. Maybe that can be fixed/adjusted I'll be checking with my dealer at my next visit. If it could be half the current travel it would be perfect. Especially when going full throttle between 1st & second when you can burn the clutch easily if not completly depressed.

That kind of adjustment was possible on my WRX I should be possible to do the same thing on this one.

What I am wishing for is as follows.

1/ Quattro3 (a must)
2/ S-Tronic (again a must)
3/ Magneticride suspension (once again a must)
4/ A smaller Bi-turbo engine (450hp+450ft/lbs) is better weight balance (and once again a must)
5/ Less overall weight (now that's once again a must)

Oh, did I say it's a must for all of the above.:D

A 8400rpm redline+
440-450hp
200pounds less weight
50-50 weight distribution
MUCH more rear biased quattro
SPORT mode that actually differs from regular mode
Better sound
Decent brake balance this time
Bi-tone interiors as a standard option, not audi exclusive or whatever
Purple and metalic white (kinda like fudji white on Maserati) exteriors

Personally, for the new RS5 (and also for the sister RS4) I want a 4.2TFSI V8:

-a revised 4.2 hight-revs engine (8300-8500 rpm)
-Twin-turbo at low pressure (like the 335i)to increase torque
-QTV
-Magnetic-ride

I just want it to be powerfull enough to beat the next M3 CSL :D

AudiSuperDriver
August 27th, 2007, 19:15
it will beat for sure the future M3 CSL...look at this year M3, has been destroyed by the 3 years off the market RS4, and if you all know CSL will only be more lighter, 100kg off and little power 10BHP but the new RS5 as i hear will have the 4.2l V8 with twin turbochargers and minimum 480HP and maximum 520 so 480- to 520HP, this will be the range that new RS5 will have!

Do you have some informations about the torque's value?
I heard around 600 NM. Did you?

AudiSuperDriver
August 27th, 2007, 20:29
yes i heard about 570NM of torque, but the power range is very accurate because the new RS4 will have 450HP with twin turbos and the RS5 will have at least 480HP, more for the RS5 of course...

I don't believe that the power of RS4 will be different from RS5:
Like the M3 coupè and sedan the engine will be very probably the same for RS4 and RS5 (that is the coupè of A4 sedan)

Agree with you. I think the RS5 will use the same V8 found in the RS4. Maybe there will be a redline increase to 8500rpm and a bump in power (probably to 450) but i highly doubt it. (I hope that i am wrong)

I believe that the RS5 would benefit from the following:
- 150lbs less than its S5 counterpart.
- Use of aluminum on the front end to help with the weight distribution (a la RS4)
- Revamp of the servotronic steering to increase sharpness and feel (as they are now doing on the updated S8/S8)

regards,
Damien

From what I have been told with regards to future engine plans I wouldn't be surprised to see turbos making their way back in to the RS4/5 models again. Engine size I believe will come down, so expect to see a V8 Bi-turbo in the RS5 (maybe) but instead of 4.2L expect 4.0L but again quite high revving for a turbo V8 of this size. Power output will most likely be 480hp with of 415ft/lbs of torque. No a huge power increase but the torque range will run very high for a turbo unit delivering amazing acceleration in almost every gear and at any speed.

(TV)Quattro3 will be there, as will a new improved form of DRC. I believe at this price level DRC works well and is a very cost effective for the results it achieves and with what the RS4 has achieved it's perfectly clear the technology isn't dead just yet. DSG 7sp will be there right from the off and a lot more aluminum will be used to balance the weight even better.

AudiSuperDriver

very accurate but believe me that RS4 and RS5 will have the same engine but different power range, the weight not only be the difference between those 2 but the engine too, so expect at least 30HP difference engine power from RS4 to RS5 and different torque values...

Current thinking is that the S4 will sport a new v6 Bi-turbo unit instead of the S5's v8, if this is true then the most logical thing for the RS4 it have would be this v6 Bi-turbo with more boost.

Only when the details of the S4 is released will we really know.
